I've only had this album for less than a week now and really don't get all the brouhaha and controversy about it. I guess the pre-release (spell check suggested that word is not spelled correctly, one of the suggestions is pee-release ) anticipation of it must be sparking all the chit-chat. I expected I'd like it and I do. I liked Insurgentes, The Incident and pretty much anything else Mr. Wilson does. Not in a sordid fan-boy sort of way, though. The only meh release for me so far was Bass Communion Molotov and Haze, which was listed on Amazon as a Steven Wilson release. So I ordered it thinking it was this album a few months ago.

I like "Insurgentes" more than GfD. New album is too chaotic for me, these melodic parts of "Deform..", "Like Dust.." just doesn't work for me. Anyway, I like heavier parts of album, though I'm not a big fan of fast and heavy riffs.

The digibook edition just came in the mail yesterday and I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet, so I got something to look forward to today after work!

Yes it is.....if you take Prozac first
Gotta say a few of the songs have grown on me......but certainly not the whole album....I skip thru a lot of the songs, but that's just me.

The themes click with me as well as the music, it's the best album that ever was, no, wait a second, it's a total piece of crap.

Er... the first one is really the only logical one.

I've only heard "Index" uploaded here on PA.
I asked if this was indicative of the album, and was told "No- it's oddball."
Still, I'm quite reluctant. To me "Index" is terrible.

Index is one of the weaker tracks IMO. Check out Sectarian, Deform to Form a Star, Postcard, and Track One, among the others as well.

Wrong! The correct answer is a question and that question is: what was the middle part?

I am not a big advocate of Mr.Wilson's work and have cringed on occasion when he is referred to as the saviour/messiah of prog, though I do respect his solid focus on songwriting as opposed to technical w**k. And....I have never been blown away by any of his work this way. This was a completely unexpected approach at least for me from Wilson and he pulled it off too. The tracks have a steady undercurrent of tension and menace and are built up and paced beautifully and purposefully....not nearly as much of alt prog dribble as in some previous albums (PT). If it is voted album of the year, I will happily agree.

Who in the hell said that? Steven's around my age and makes music that speaks to me. It's a good album, no more no less.

So many times I have heard that sort of thing, especially at the time when FOABP and Insurgentes were released within, what, a year of each other. And in India, especially, he has a massive following. There's not much awareness of prog overall, so somebody making so many epics is already God.

I see, it's all the Indian's fault. This album seems to me to be a rather personal one. There's a lot revisiting of themes he's delved into before.

Steven is one of my favourite modern musicians, bar none. GfD is a great album, and probably my favourite of the year (though Heritage is veeeery close). I haven't received my deluxe edition yet, but I couldn't wait, and so I bought the standard CD edition in the shop as well! :D
Deform To Form A Star is just amazing. One of the highlights. Sectarian, Postcard, No Part of Me, Raider II, and Track One are my other faves.
This could almost be a new PT album. To me, this feels a more logical progression from the Incident, than from Insurgentes. If the next PT sounds like GfD, I won't be disappointed.
I ordered the vinyl of this immediately after hearing the cd. LOL. Great disc.
