Post is a little late and I don't have time to go into much detail but here we go:

I gave Air Liner, another Pakistani project, a listen and to my joy, I found that the album Garden Cocoon is an excellent post-rock/nu-jazz record with tendencies to expand boundaries past even that impressive description.

For this week we've got the new 6LA8 album which I have indeed been ranting about this past week but it truly is something great.



This is a much more lighthearted and spacey release than their previous records but it still retains all of their great qualities such as the use of sound clips and some truly haunting passages of music. It is based on the concept of dreams (obviously) but there is a much more deeper concept that you'll have to decipher for yourself. (No spoilers. Tongue)

All-in-all, this little-known Pakistani group keeps on impressing me and their music needs to reach the ears of a much larger audience.

One of the most brilliant albums this year came in the form of a lo-fi folk record that is so much more than a lo-fi folk record. Julia Kotowski aka Entertainment For The Braindead dished out The Berlin Kitchen Sessions a collection of songs she recorded in various Berlin kitchens with no permanent home. The product was a heartfelt record of beautiful songwriting and vocals by one of the most talented bedroom (or kitchen) musicians out there.

Lost Trail is a project to kind of sit back and take in on a rainy day, the atmosphere of the music is dense and during times like that it just soaks in more. Luckily, I had a moment like that yesterday while listening to their collaboration with ambient-folk musician Dave Watkins and the album really, really impressed me.





Post-rock with a very strong folky, lo-fi, ambiance here, it has that blend of genres that I love so much. The best moments are during "Mom Jeans and a Bottle of Fuzzy Naval" when the field recordings and drone grace our ears filled with nostalgic beauty. The album is a real gem and really gives the listener something to do with it's density.

Since the week isn't quite over and this isn't a full release, may this be kind of a "something special" post.

I have just recently found out about the excellent Chillwave outfit, TV Girl who has released one of my most-listened to EPs in these last couple months.




Although not progressive in the least (well I guess they sample Todd Rundgren) I think many on this site will find their EP Benny and the Jetts a fun little album to listen to. Besides it's free. Excellent sampling, production and grooves just make this an entertaining listen.

Looking at Alan's blog reminded me I have one of my own so I'll go ahead and update it. LOL

This is basically one of the coolest bands I've had the pleasure of finding out about recently, 6LA8 (just recently added to the site) are an amazing Pakistani post-rock/electronic/ambient/drone group and that amazing blend I just mentioned is what makes them so much fun to listen to. Great music made by two guys with a passion for great music. They enjoy what they do and it shows in the albums they've released. My personal favorite is probably This Is Not A Conceptual Album which honestly, has such a blend of influences, I can't even explain it.



They release everything free of charge and really love to hear feedback, go ahead and check 'em out.

Honestly, this is one of the coolest things I've heard in awhile:



The album Collage by Oomkah / Black Sky Chant (projects I know very little about) struck me as a real gem. It's glacial yet mechanical at the same time and there is really never a dull moment. The album consists of two long tracks that touch base with many genres including ambient, electronica, shoegaze, drone and post-rock. Field recordings and recited poetry also fill the dark caverns of this album making it so different from everything I've heard, it's just a cool listen.

This is actually pretty good. The way he raps is less aggressive/harsh than the stuff that really bothers me. It's almost like talking rather than rapping. The background music is good too. 

Mind, I'm only one track in so far.
