I like it so far.You can play as 4 different characters and each has their own specialty.I started the game with Xian Mei.who specializes in blade weapons and healing.Good story so far,and a nice variety to the quests. It's also a blast to play on co-op.

So I finally got around to getting Mass Effect 2 (the PS3 port) and I'm loving it, but for some reason, the audio is buggy as hell.

If I run it in surround, the cutscene voice acting is either so quiet I can't hear anything or sounds like they're speaking into a tin can. This is fixed if I run it in stereo, but obviously that's not as fun, especially since the rest of the in-game sound is absolutely fantastic.

Anyone else had a similar problem/found a fix?

Dark Souls is coming out so soon : D

I have it on pre order but won't have money....so scrambling to compile the $64 in 3 days.
Could be worse, my friend who decided he wanted a wii (and sold his PS3 to do so) realize how much wii sucks and wants Dark Souls...he needs to buy a new PS3 now LOL

I hear something about legit co-op? We need to hit that hot dark souls action Joel

Besides Dark Souls, there is Uncharted 3 and Skyrim. Plus I wanted to pick up this game No More Heroes.
Ugh....my wallet

I've been playing Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends a lot, lately. I plan on getting Skyrim, and as soon as I get another copy of Mass Effect 1, I'll be playing both those and Mass Effect 2 from start to finish. Amnesia Dark Descent is creepy and entertaining.

Anybody got good recommendations for PC games for a decent laptop? For example: I'll never in a million years be able to play the newest games on high settings, but most things from around 2006 or before play excellently. Rise of Legends handles excellently, as do Warcraft III, Amnesia, and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. PC gaming is too frustrating for me. I should probably stick to my Xbox 360.

The Hitman Series

Mount & Blade: Warband (New game, but super outdated graphics since its an indie title, will run on 5-6 year old hardware at medium settings)

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (built on a modified version of the Source engine; runs with everything maxed except AA on my old laptop and still looks pretty amazing). Also has the best combat in any game ever ever.

The Penumbra series - spiritual predecessors to Penumbra.

Splinter Cell (all titles through Chaos Theory).

Rome: Total War

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and KOTOR2 are great as well.

Fable: The Lost Chapters is pretty fun for 20 or so hours, too. One of those games I play through every year or so.

Any Source engine games tend to run pretty well on old hardware too. Do you have Half Life 2? There's an amazing mod called Nightmare House (playing Nightmare House 2 right now) which is definitely worth checking out/basically guaranteed to run on your hardware.

Also, this will be useful for you.

I don't think that Skyrim is possibility for you. I have Intel i5 with 2x2500 Ghz + 4GB RAM + classic graphic card of 2010 onwards, 5650 (1GB, but it doesn't matter, it heats up so fast that you can't use full speed without good cooling). It didn't cost much, about $900, but it was worth it (I wanted 17'' screen).

I suppose I will be able to play Skyrim, but only barely.

But as was mentioned, you can play almost every SOURCE engine game, most importantly games from Half Life 2 series and Portal 1 & 2. There are other though and they all will be open for you because of great optimalization of that engine. Even low end hardware can run it.

As for other games, here is a list of "the best" games:

Oh and Alitare ? I virtually played every new game of this year (oh yeah, this was gaming year), but with these hardware specs of mine, I of course couldn't play it on max settings. I'm used to playing on lower settings (but not the lowest, if you are wise, you can allocate hardware power to the most important stuff and leave the rest, which is not as important, but sure as hell takes a lot of h-power).

I played Crysis 2 with this laptop, but on medium settings and with +- 20 FPS. The bad thing is when it goes bellow 12 FPS, as it did in some parts of Deus Ex Human Revolution (there is a lot of bloom around, which cannot be turned off completely).

Anyway, PC gaming history is long, you can play all these DOS games with DosBox emulator (from years 1985-1996), you can play all the old games from Windows era (1995-2001) and of course, games which were meant to run under Win XP (2001-2006) - these will give you least of trouble.

The point is that there are hundreds of games out there to enjoy and if you can get over not being able to play latest games, you'll be fine.

Oh, I'd never try to play Skyrim on my laptop - that's preorder for my 360. I play new games on that, and take my laptop for games that are 4-5 years old (as well as lots of emulators). This laptop is what let me beat Valkyrie Profile for the first time. Thank you for the recommendations.

For Joel: Got Fable and Kotor I+II. The latter two being my favorite aspects of Star Wars in general. Fable beats Fable II to pieces for me. Lots of fun. I have the Orange Box for 360, which has been a veritable gold mine, and I plan on getting into Rome: Total War. I've heard nice things about Dark Messiah, but haven't had the chance to check it out.

For anyone that cares I've got:  Dell Inspiron dual core 2.50Ghz, ATI Radeon 3650 GFX card (the worst aspect of my laptop and there's no feasible means of upgrading it), and 4GB RAM running on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Also, with that 'Can You Run It?' site - I think it's broken. It's telling me I can run Crysis 1 with the recommended settings. It said the same thing about The Witcher, Elder Scrolls 4, and Rome: Total War.

There is one page I found helpful about what can I run on my graphic card. If your GC is the weakest link, then all games you want to play have to be evaluated through it. On top, there is some brief generic info, then some stats, but the important thing is the bottom of the page, with GAME BENCHMARKS. There is also Crysis 1 you mentioned.

You know, there is a big problem I found during playing new games this year. But it can be applied to older ones as well. You see, when the benchmark states that you will get average of 22 FPS on medium settings of Crysis, it means that sometimes it will be more, sometimes less. If it's more, it doesn't matter, but when you are about to shot on bunch of enemy soldiers and the computer suddenly lags for a second, or drops FPS from 20 to 10, or even 5, 3, 1, it can harm you.

You're right. What was possible in desktops - replace graphic card, is now impossible in laptops. But if you will ever think about new laptop, check with this page again to check which card is how good.

What effect would increasing my Page File size have? I'm talking about doubling it. Hell, if I could allocate my entire 2 Terabyte portable harddrive to it, I would. P

Just played Half-Life 2: Episode 2 again and it has rejuvenated my rage that it's been almost 4 years to the day since it came out and we haven't heard word one out of Valve about either Episode 3 or Half-Life 3.  Guess the next game in the series will come out sometime after Left 4 Dead 10 and Portal 9.

From what I've played of both Left 4 Dead (really could care less), and Portal (fun, but not important) - I'd rather they work on Half-Life until we get Episode 3, 4, and 5, and Half-Lie 3 and yadda. Hell, one of my favorite FPS games.
