If Spocks Beard wins this poll, I will lose all my faith in this website. I REALLY wish i could vote. Godspeed is by far more progressive. When i listen to Spocks Beard, its music to entertain me in my passing time, something to drown out the annoying noises of my world. When i listen to Godspeed, I sit down and savor every note in a cognitive trance... Godspeed turns into a day defining experience consuming your thoughts with their dynamic soundscapes and soaring peaks. Progarchives and Godspeed fans, please dont disappoint me. PLEASE!

GY!BE they are just fantastic. A little depressing but WOW! they pack a lot of punch for a couple string instruments a few guitars and a drum.

I'm usually more in the mood for Spock's Beard. GY!BE is good, nonetheless.
I vote for the Beard.

Tough choice |
No, easy choice - Spock's Beard
......and I think you'll find that Talk Talk were there a lot earlier with the "Post Rock" thing (whatever it means).
|
Spirit Of Eden was Proto-Post Rock for sure, and an incredible album. But GY!BE are the main influence for most of todays Post Rock. |
I've had this argument with a few people before. Talk Talk, Slint, and Tortoise are definitely full on post rock IMO. First wave post rock. 10 minute crescendos are not the defining factor of the genre |
I agree with that.
But they are what most Post Rock bands have emulated.

What a strange pair. I vote for GY!BE, just because Spock's Beard annoys me so much.

Godspeed all the way. I've simply never seen the appeal in SB, despite giving them the very best of chances. |
This, but in reverse, love Spock's Beard, tried repeatedly to enjoy 'Raise your Skinny Fists. . . ' but failed. My vote goes for the Beard |
Ha! You got there before me with this comment. Frankly, in the long run, I find that you can't beat a good tune rather than ambient noodling
