That's what happens in 90% of the cases, braw.
Look,
I'm also all to allowing people to freely share information, but I do
believe there is a site regulation prohibiting people from even talking
about leaks.

When BC&SL was leaked, there was a thread about it. No one is advocating downloading, nor is anyone admitting to doing it. There are videos on youtube (how much better that is is another story.)

Well, you do have a point and there is even a 2-star review from a reviewer based entirely and explicitly based on that leak (of BC@SL) and so far nothing has been done, so I believe there won't be much of a hassle after all.

This is completelly true. Here in BR, for example, only the profiter or the one who actively distributes a given copywrited material for free can be charged with a crime.

A band makes far less money of album sales than touring or merch sales. And if they're signed to a major record label, for the most part any money they'll get is just an advance than actual sales of the album.

No they aren't. Since it's such a great album I plan to buy the special edition now, as opposed to the standard edition, which I was going to buy before I heard it.
More money for Dream Theater. Very often things like this leak are done on purpose, and sometimes it's a very effective marketing strategy.

After a couple of listens, it's their best since Six Degrees. For the first time since then they use metal sparingly and for effect not just because they can. Mangini does a good job at sounding like Portnoy did, but fresh enough that we know it's not him. |
I like how everyone is stuck on the metal being less prominent now that Portnoy left. This album like everything else they've done, has tons of metal as well as the "ballad" and softer tracks. More specifically there's still the über heavy n' ultra clunky nu/corish metal riffs with those obnoxious Zakk Wylde pinch harmonics of the more recent records.
Much hype from the dramatic turn of events for a not so dramatic result. It will be interesting to see folks' evened out perception about ADToV once the next record drops, and who knows, maybe by then Petrucci will let Mangini off his leash. |
He so silly...

I already pre-ordered the album the first week it was available for pre-order, so I don't feel like I'm stealing by downloading something that I've already paid for, not that I'm saying I've downloaded the album or anything! I've also already bought tickets for the Dramatic Tour of Events and have hit every DT tour that's come to the south since I was old enough to go, and I'm in the Score DVD in NYC, so I don't feel like I'd be costing DT any money by downloading an album a week early, not that I'm saying I've done that!! If I had downloaded the album early, I'd probably say that after another day of listening, another major difference that I would have noticed about the album is that it's more melody-driven than riff-driven. Most of Dream Theater's albums lately have been very riff-centric, and though the riffs were often quite good, it left something to still be desired. There's a lot more happening in this album; even with the basic riffs there are more melodies being played with them. Little things like that and the 7/8 - 6/4 - 5/4 - 7/8 riff in Breaking All Illusions, for example, just perk everything up. If this album was just Lost Not Forgotten and Breaking All Illusions, it'd be a masterpiece even at 23 minutes long. As things stand, it's pretty awesome.

Petrucci programmed the drums and made Mangini play what he wrote so he could sound like Portnoy, which is lame. MM could have brought something new to the band, but instead he comes off as a completely forgettable replacement guy.
|
Well lets see, the pinch harmonics are MUCH less prominent. And Mangini was given a CORE of what to play, and then Mangini was allowed to fiddle with that. Even so, Petrucci had much of the drums programmed BEFORE the drummer was selected. How is he supposed to know what the new drummers style will be before they select?

Ah but it is you who should be ashamed for feeding the corporate beast that keeps the musicians down! Also Darkshade I think a thread was made about this, then again DT warrants at least 5 Like I said in that one, thus far it is inconsistent for me. Doubt I'll buy it when it releases, maybe later one day but not ASAP. Unlike Heritage which I can't wait for

This should be the official one! Well I'll be getting both albums on release date. ADTOE feels like a concept album, almost. There is honestly some new stuff coming from that new album, especially from the song Breaking All Illusions. I haven't had a chance to "preview" the new Opeth album, aside from that first song they released. BTW, I might be going to Best Buy to get these new albums, since they'll probably be $9.99 each, as opposed to VV's prices which are usually $13-$15 for new albums. We'll see.

Feeding the corporate beast?? By buying an album whether online or in a store? So you are saying we should not buy any music that is issued by a record label because they treat the artist badly and don't give them their due?
I guess I am at a loss with the reply. It really does not matter though.......I will continue to purchase albums rather than download something I have not paid for.
I will purchase the new album when it available for me to buy........and I will buy a vinyl version because I will also buy the digital version.

Best thing they did since Six Degrees.I think Portnoy not being in the band revitalized them and let them be a little more creative. You can ever hear Myung's bass playing!

Chillax Catcher, I buy CD's all the time and proud of it. I'll explain to ya some other time why d/loading is ok, ok? But I am fair at least Caio, the new Opeth is sounding pretty sweet. I can't blame ya there Mike VV is more expensive for sure. Now they have all the sh*t you can't find at Best Buy or FYE but for DT and even Opeth, those are cheaper places to go for sure. I think I gave you a number, just hit me up Bropeth. I was kinda hoping the departure of MP would spark something, it's different for sure and their best album in a while but it's still underwhelming for me. Maybe some more time is needed.
