Jan Dumee (Not in PA database)

Rio On The Rocks (2005)
Imprint: Musea

Track list:
1 - Rio On The Rocks - (7'44)
2 - O Amor Natural - (5'20)
3 - Lilia - (8'57)
4 - Women - (5'16)
5 - For Tanja - (4'19)
6 - Raga For Piet - (5'14)
7 - Marockatu - (8'25)
8 - Ventos Solitarios - (4'41)
9 - Brazilian Dream - (5'05)
10 - Sambinha Pra Ela - (3'49)

Label info:
Jan DUMEE is no-one but the guitarist of the Dutch Progressive rock legend FOCUS, since its reforming at the beginning of the New Millennium. Our man had taken the opportunity to demonstrate his extraordinary skills with their album "8" (2003), proving that he stands much higher than a mere stand-in for Jan AKKERMAN. Of course, both guitarists share a rather similar style, both lyrical and technical. Quite like his glorious elder, Jan DUMEE also claims a great influence from the jazz-rock fusion scene. What characterizes him is however his immoderate attraction for Brazilian music. Besides, he happened to play within serveral South-American bands. All these elements are present in "Rio On The Rocks", his first solo album recorded in Brazil in 2005, and released both by the Musea and Rock Symphony labels. Among the musicians is the cream of Rio De Janeiro's scene, playing mainly instrumental material. Impossible not to remember FOCUS sometimes, even if samba or jazz are always sensible. To be discovered !

Bandhada (Not in PA database, under evaluation by the jazzrock  genre team)

Bandhada (1984/2004)
Imprint: Musea

Track list:
1 - La Septima Casa - (6'59)
2 - Amores De Un Noble Caballero - (3'14)
3 - Expreso A Corea - (4'30)
4 - Bien, Gracias - (6'44)
5 - El Vuelo De Hada - (6'33)
6 - Rompiendo La Soledad - (8'34)
7 - Algo Mas Que... - (5'37)
8 - Toque De Midas - (6'45)

Label info:
As far as Progressive rock is concerned, the South American school is renowned for its refinement and its great symphonic flights of fancy. Although Brazil and Argentina have been quite logically the most important providers of different artists, the Chilean stage should not be neglected however. The Mylodon label has endeavoured to show this since several years yet. Its latest discovery is named BANDHADA. The musicians of that band joined in 1982, sharing a common passion for CAMEL, CARAVAN or Pat METHENY. They recorded only one self-titled album little time afterwards, a brilliant compendium of Progressive rock and fusion jazz-rock. This little masterpiece is jointly reissued by the Musea label today, enhanced with two live tracks, dating from 1984. Don't miss it !

I don't know the boss there, but I'll hook you up with my contact person at the label on Facebook. I'm pretty sure you'll manage to take it from there :-)

Idejala ! ...Esta Triste (2005)
Imprint: Musea

Track list:
1 - Mi Padre Nunca Me Lleve A Roma - (6'51)
2 - La Esperanzadora - (4'11)
3 - Tres Meses - (2'04)
4 - No Puedo Tocar Rock Contigo - (9'49)
5 - Mi Dulce Y Enferma Vivana Vivana - (7'10)
6 - Siete Meses - (1'35)
7 - Intermitente - (10'57)
8 - Idejala ! ...Esta Triste - (7'50)
9 - Nueve Meses - (1'43)
10 - Ultimo Noviembre - (6'37)
11 - La Violenta - (3'35)

Label info:
Venezuelan band RETROVERTIGO certainly took the title of a Mr BUNGLE track, when choosing its name. Published in the year 2005 by the Musea label, the quartet's first album is a real and fascinating surprise. Except one title sung in Spanish, the opus is entirely instrumental, displaying a music at the crossroads between sophisticated rock ala RADIOHEAD and Seventies Progressive rock. One could think of the successful mixture created by the French group MONOCEROS. On the edge of Gothic, this melancholic music provides new sensations through eleven pieces from various lenghts. The emphasis is put on slowness and emotion, discrediting virtuosity. To be discovered !

7 - Le Manège Aux Songes - (2'21)
8 - Les Trois Dames De Mantoue (I. Prélude) - (1'43)

10 - Les Trois Dames De Mantoue (III. La Rêveuse) - (4'35)
11 - Les Trois Dames De Mantoue (IV. La Fougueuse) - (1'15)
12 - Gaillarde Napolitaine - (3'00)
13 - Larmes Bleues - (4'04)
14 - Complainte Ancienne - (1'37)

Label info:
Together with his twin brother Thierry, Jean-Luc PAYSSAN was a co-founder of MINIMUM VITAL, more than twenty years ago. This band from the Bordeaux area has become popular among Progressive rock connoisseurs especially, as it took part in the movement's revival by the end of the Eighties. It also initiated a new musical language, somewhere between jazz-rock, Progressive rock and medieval music. The first solo album of Jean-Luc PAYSSAN is not that of a solitary man: Thierry's keyboards and Sonia NEDELEC's voice are here, as well as Bernard MILON's violin. The Master of Ceremonies offers in turn beautiful acoustic or nylon guitar parts. But not only: he also plays unusual instruments such as theorbo, ciste, mandolin, mandole and some percussions... These fourteen short and intimist pieces unveil melodies with an absolute splendour, music of total purity, both timeless and personal. Unlike most guitarists' albums, too frequently complacent and demonstrative, the artist here shows a perfect humility, while proving to be an outstanding instrumentist and composer, with an astonishing culture. No song sounds like another one here, both in its arrangements and inspiration. An absolute eclecticism serving a simply marvellous music: a fountain of purity !

East Wind Pot (Not in PA database, under evaluation by the jazzrock/fusion genre team)

East Wind Pot (2006)
Imprint: Musea

Track list:
1 - Doctor Bloodmoney - (7'00)
2 - An Argument With Illya Kuryakin Whom I Loved In My Childhood - (12'06)
3 - Minotaurus - (6'48)
4 - Blue Monday - (5'04)
5 - L'Aiguille Creuse - (9'08)
6 - April Dancer - (8'34)

Label info:
EAST WIND POT is a current Japanese band, led by keyboards player Yuko TSUCHIYA, former member of the Progressive rock group THETA. One can also find a drummer, a bass player and woodwinds (Saxophone, clarinet...). Jointly published by the Musea and poseidon labels, the eponymous album (2006) displays a subtle blend of aerial jazz and jazz-rock, with Progressive rock hints on some keyboards parts. Composed by Yuko TSUCHIYA, these six instrumental pieces are often based on a dialogue between woodwinds and organ or synthesizers parts, and in a vein near WEATHER REPORT, BRAND X and sometimes Chick COREA for the keyboards work. Very melodious and suggestive, with dynamic drumming, this piece of art is just amazing !

Everybody, stop what you're doing and stand back! Retrovertigo is under evaluation by the post rock team! F' that. Let's just assume it's proficient prog that's better than Fish-led Marillion. Musea is a great label.

Round House (Not in PA database, under evaluation by the jazzrock/fusion genre team)

3-D (2006)
Imprint: Musea

Track list:
1 - 3-D - (5'21)
2 - Romantic Rally - (8'42)
3 - SuperWarp - (6'20)
4 - Inori - (7'52)
5 - Amber Rain - (5'09)
6 - Tears Of Sphinx - (6'28)
7 - Suisyagoya No Asa - (9'08)
8 - Carnival Night - (3'29)
9 - Jinzo-Ningen.2005 - (4'06)

Label info:
ROUND HOUSE started its career in 1975, as an instrumental quintet including two guitarists, a keyboards player and a rhythmic section. From this period, one can only find two studio albums and one track on the "The Seventies West Japanese Rock Scene" compilation. Since 1985, the band experiences a long standby, that will last about fifteen years. "Live @2001 In Osaka" sees ROUND HOUSE, now a trio, back on track. Jointly published by the Musea and Poseidon labels, "3-D" (2006) features nine unreleased instrumental tracks. The intense and nostalgic atmospheres of some of them, with their lyrical guitar parts and symphonic keyboards layers, are not so far away from CAMEL. Most of the tracks evolve in KENSO or BRAND X territory as well. Here's a virtuoso music, melodic at the same time, dynamic and suggestive. Brilliant !

Naranja Mecanica (Not in PA database)

1993-1995 (2005)
Imprint: Musea

Track list:
1 - En Algo... - (1'58)
2 - Liturgia - (4'57)
3 - Desnudo - Historia En Un Acto - (6'01)
4 - Abraxas - (5'36)
5 - En La Fiesta - (5'14)
6 - Ficcion Rural - (2'53)
7 - Cronica De La Cobardia - (4'31)
8 - Rosa De Corcho - (5'54)
9 - El Muro De La Lamentaciones - (5'17)
10 - La Rueda De La Fortuna - (8'28)
11 - La Ciudad Jardin - (6'22)
12 - ...En Nada - (5'13)

Label info:
Progressive rock actually succeeds in settling in the most improbable places. Even in the country of cigar, salsa, BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB and Fidel CASTRO, a local scene exists ! Since the glorious SINTESIS in the Seventies, it seems that NARANJA MECANICA has taken the leadership there. Led by the keyboardist-vocalist Alejandro DELLE VALLE, this Cuban outfit blends splendidly symphonism that is dear to South-American musicians with the warmth of Spanish language, and the twirling sounds of flute. Jointly released by the Musea and Luna Negra labels, "1993-1995" unveils twelve lyrical and colorful tracks, sometimes tinted with folk-rock (Ala JETHRO TULL), sometimes with jazz-rock (Ala CAMEL). Acoustic instruments also take the big share: flute, acoustic guitar and percussions in foreground. An exotic trip indeed !

Ring (not in PA database)

The Empire of Necromancers (2006)
Imprint: Musea

Track list:

1 - The Empire Of Necromancers (I. Prologue) - (11'09)
2 - The Empire Of Necromancers (II. The White Sybil) - (7'14)
3 - The Empire Of Necromancers (III. Piano Solo) - (1'51)
4 - The Empire Of Necromancers (IV. The Desolation Of Soom) - (4'23)
5 - The Empire Of Necromancers (V. Magic Lady) - (7'34)
6 - The Star Of Sorrow - (4'31)
7 - In Memory Of Charnades The Pan - (11'27)

Label info:
RING is probably one of the oldest Japanese Progressive rock bands, that existed prior to the golden age of the local scene, that took place during the Eighties. Jointly published by the Musea and Poseidon labels, "The Empire Of Necromancers" was initially recorded "live" during the summer of 1975. RING is in fact keyboards player Takashi KOKUBO's group, here playing drums and singing in Japanese, even if the music is mainly instrumental. This is a rock symphony in five parts, based on nice melodies and refined arrangements. The music could compete with most of the great bands of the time, with a special love for the early psychedelic PINK FLOYD. One could also find organ parts not unlike IRON BUTTERFLY, and classical influences inspired by BACH. Two bonus tracks are included, recorded between 1977 and 1978: these are synthesizers works by Takashi KOKUBO, with the help from a second keyboards player and a guitarist. A nice, sophisticated music, and also a musical document about the early japanese Progressive rock scene !

Alain Blesing (Not in PA database, under evaluation by the jazzrock/fusion genre team)

Songs From the Beginning (2007)
Imprint: Musea

Track list:
1 - Slightly All The Time - (9'37)
2 - Beautiful As The Moon - (9'50)
3 - California - (5'35)
4 - Mumps - Extracts - (9'27)
5 - 1983 - (11'47)
6 - Behind Blue Eyes - (5'58)
7 - Fracture - (14'53)

Label info:
Alain BLESING is a French guitar player, known for having been part of the Progressive rock band ESKATON, considered as one of the most gifted disciples of MAGMA. From the late Seventies, he extends his capacities in studying musicology, then in discovering jazz music. With the Turkish female singer Senem DIYICI, he later got involved in the universe of world-music. Now firmly established on the French scene, Alain BLESING returns to his roots and publishes an album made of covers, recorded in the club Le Triton. Published on the Musea label, "Songs From The Beginning" (2007) presents legendary songs such as "Slightly All The Time" (SOFT MACHINE), "Beautiful As The Moon" (HENRY COW), "California" (LED ZEPPELIN), "Mumps" (HATFIELD AND THE NORTH), "1983" (Jimi HENDRIX), "Behind Blue Eyes" (THE WHO) and "Fracture" (KING CRIMSON). His notoriety helped attracting big names like John GREAVES or Hugh HOPPER, respectively taking the singing and bass duties here. At the end, you get an opus both masterfully performed and intimately personal, revisiting all of Alain BLESING's musical aspects. To be discovered !

G.A.L.F. (Not in PA database)

Spirals of Time (2006)
Imprint: Musea

Track list:
1 - It's Time To Change - (25'56)
2 - Universe - (9'24)
3 - Someday Beyond - Shadows And Light Will Bright - (9'45)
4 - Earth - (11'38)
5 - Fogueira - (3'54)

Label info:
Giuliano TIBURZIO, Antonio BOSTOLOTO, Leonardo ZAMBLANCO & Fernando PACHECO are four veterans of the Brazilian Progressive rock scene. Led by the latter musician, who used to be the guitarist and founding member of RECORDANDO O VALE DAS MACAS, the band aims to trace back the very essence of the Golden Age of the style, between the years 1968 and 1978. Released by both Musea and Rock Symphony labels, "Spirals Of Time" (2006) is about to reach this ambitious challenge. Through three long pieces, one short track of 4 minutes and a suite lasting 26 minutes that starts the opus, these four fellowmen revisit many aspects of the international Progressive rock heritage. However they bring about something new, that can not be easily compared to anything already known. Further, the general atmosphere differs from that of the South-American School, notably through Leonardo ZAMBIANCO's excellent English vocals. To be discovered !

Hal & Ring (Not in PA database, under evaluation by the psychedelic/space rock genre team)

Alchemy (2006)
Imprint: Musea

Track list:
1 - Sir Bordenhausen - (6'06)
2 - Triplet Colors II - (9'33)
3 - The Flower Ladies - (5'35)
4 - Open Before Knock - (4'12)
5 - Altered States II - (5'27)
6 - The Star Of Sorrow - (4'11)
7 - In Memory Of Charnades The Pan - (9'47)

Label info:
HAL & RING were two japanese bands alive in the mid-Seventies, and this project is a combination of musicians from both bands, who eventually perform and record their songs, thirty years after ! Two members of HAL later created SHINGETSU, some played in ASTURIAS, some others in EAST WIND POT. The Musea and Poseidon labels also reissued RING's "The Empire Of Necromancers" recently. "Alchemy" (2006) includes a collection of seven instrumental tracks, offering an excellent mix of golden Progressive rock music (Influenced by YES, PINK FLOYD, EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER, CAMEL...) and Seventies jazz-rock fusion. Nice melodies, beautiful guitar soli, two keyboards players: here's a sophisticated and intense music, the result of a real human "alchemy". A beautiful piece of music !

Colossus Project (Not in PA database)
- Note: The genre team collaborators of Progarchives don't regard Colossus Project to be a true band, and as such find them to be unworthy of a separate database entry.

The Empire and the Rebellion (2008)
Imprint: Musea

Track listing:
1 - Astral Prelude - (6'16)
2 - Droids - (9'07)
3 - The Dark Lord Of The Sith - (7'59)
4 - Meeting The Force - (7'15)
5 - Two Suns - (4'10)
6 - When I Was A Jedi - (7'58)
7 - The Millenium Quartet - (1'19)
8 - The Millenium Falcon - (8'48)
9 - My Tears For Alderaan - (3'55)
10 - The Rebellion Suite (I. Inside The Death Star/II. The Duel/III. Attack Of The Death Star) - (19'21)
11 - May The Force Be With You - (1'33)

Label info:
COLOSSUS PROJECT is the new project designed by Colossus, the Finnish Progressive Music Association. But this time, there's only one band involved: the band members are keyboards player Alfio COSTA (PROWLERS & TILION), bass player Roberto "BOBO" AIOLFI (PROWLERS & TILION), drummer Giovanni GIANA VEZZOLI (PROWLERS) and singer Hamadi TRABELSI. With a big help from some Italian friends and with some international special guests, the musicians wrote their first album "The Empire And The Rebellion" (2008). As you may guess, this work is inspired by "Episode IV" in the original "Star Wars" saga. And as for all previous Musea and Colossus collaborations, the sound of this project is clearly rooted in the Italian Progressive rock scene of the early Seventies. Hammond organ, Mini-Moog, Rhodes and Mellotron are all here to fight the dark side of the Force... Are you ready for this new space adventure ?

De Futura (Hiroshima), 2007
Imprint: Musea

Track list:
1 - Pandora - (3'01)
2 - La Musique Des Sphères - (9'28)
3 - The Futura - Part One - (12'55)
4 - Le Drône Du Milieu - (4'21)

Label info:
Erik BARON is a bass player from Bordeaux, leader of the ensemble DESACCORDES. After having paid tribute to Terry RILEY with "In C" (2005), the third album or the band may cause some sensation to all lovers of Zeuhl Music. this is revisiting Jannick TOP's magnum opus "De Futura - Hiroshima", initially released on MAGMA's "Üdü Wüdü" (1976). The hommage to the inhabitants of planet Ork has been divided in two parts, and four more tracks were added: "La Musique Des Sphères" and four compositions created by Erik BARON. Six bass players, six guitar players and a drummer reinvent this classic with an exceptional intensity, but also with a real precision in the dialogues between the instruments. Recorded by MINIMUM VITAL's Thierry PAYSSAN, here's a great album for all Zeuhl fans. To be discovered !

DYONISOS is a one-man virtual ensemble featuring American musician Dan COWAN. With three CD already on his account, he wrote and performed all the tracks for the project's self-titled CD, jointly published by the Musea and Mals labels. The style is an arty space-rock, abundant in extended guitar and synthesizers parts, sometimes evoking PINK FLOYD and CAMEL, sometimes ELOY or Alan PARSONS PROJECT, without even mentioning OZRIC TENTACLES and TANGERINE DREAM, through the gilmouresque influence is unquestionably dominant in DYONISOS' music. Here are seventeen great compositions, including five instrumental ones, to be sipped comfortably in your favourite chair.

Molecule (Not in PA database, under evaluation by the psych/space rock genre team)

Interstellar (2007)
Imprint: Musea

Label info:
Behind the name MOLECULE hides one French musician, Gérard VERRAN, who plays great music. Listening to these nine instrumental pieces (The human voice is used as an instrument), you may think of nowadays post-rock ala GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR ! and actual electronic music, but also sometimes Seventies space rock ala TANGERINE DREAM, and even, here and there, hints of early PINK FLOYD. Cleverly mixing a strong melodic sense with experimental sequences, MOLECULE could be brought near Progressive rock artists like VULGAR UNICORN, or albums like Mike OLDFIELD's "The Songs Of Distant Earth". Published on the Musea label, "Interstellar" (2007) displays a beautiful music, dreamlike and suggestive, perfectly arranged and produced, with a strong identity. What else to say ?

Label info:
T-BO is a band created by Belgian drummer Philippe LALOUX, in loving memory of his son Thibaut, killed at the age of nineteen by a driver who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol. His son liked his music, and wanted it to be recorded. It's done with this album... These fourteen instrumental pieces are played by Philippe LALOUX on drums, percussion and acoustic guitar, helped by numerous musicians on flute and saxophone, keyboards and trumpet, bass, percussions... "We Stay Together" (2007) reveals a beautiful music, melodious and refined. Infused with melancholy and serenity, T-BO's music can be brought near CAMEL, FOCUS or the best songs by ROUSSEAU. But as it's composed by a drummer, there's a specific dynamism and energy combined with pastoral flute parts, guitar arpeggios and airy atmospheres. A music that speaks to the listener's mind.
