Congrats. What ages will you be teaching? |
That's even better: English 3, which is 11th grade, which is exactly what I wanted.
English 3 is American literature.
And one thing I am going to do if I can is teach some Sinclair Lewis
Sinclair Lewis is the first American to win the Nobel prize in literature. Prior to that, he turned down the Pulitzer because he considered it a lowbrow award. Why Lewis is not taught in schools is beyond me. His novels are distinctively American in subject and style.

Sounds great.

Dang, if it weren't for the fact that it's not my birthday, I'd be wondering if today was my birthday! Another package just arrived. Mmmm, Snowtorch on vinyl.

Gonna teach any Vonnegut? He was an American and his books are generally found in the Literature section of bookstores.
| Actually, I love "Harrison Bergeron." Great satire.

If I taught American literature, I would teach John Fante and Carson McCullers.

Mmm, this Jerry Harrison album is awesome so far, definitely satisfying my "I want more music like Talking Heads' Remain in Light" feeling.
