Thanks for the well wishes and whatnot. Nice to meet all of you.
Alitaire - That's quite the list you have going there.
- Ask yourself "What is prog?"
I've had that conversation a few times with people and still don't have an answer, nor desire one.
- Realize your answer is probably a bunch of subjective garbage.
If I had one to begin with you'd probably be right. But even my stance of neutrality on the subject is probably subjective garbage anyways.
- Post a poll that's been posted before
I've never posted a poll. No interest in them either.
- Openly berate yourself to hide your self-adoration
Damn. Seems you've experienced this brand of deception before around here. Pity, now I can't use it as I'd planned.
- Use big words to impress folks, specifically like 'acclimating', 'proclivities', or 'boner'.
Got me there. For the record I like 'proclivities' so I shall continue it's usage. But since you're going to be waiting for the right moment to point out any other usage of "larger" words I'll refrain from doing so. ;-)
- Hallucinate that your opinion is important and special
Tried that. It has it's uses. Doesn't mean anyone has to agree with me!
- Post in the Shred Room accordingly
I don't shred. I'm not sure if that's progressive blasphemy but I'm prepared for the consequences.
- Pretend that you don't illegally download music
If this was a couple years ago you'd be correct. Gone "clean" since then. /cites some over used justification such as enjoying the album art, blah blah.
- Meet WalterDigsTunes - Argue with WalterDigsTunes
I guess these don't really apply anymore.
- Keep yourself up to date with the current trivial memes and popular interests (this quarter is My Little Pony)
Okay. Uh huh. Got it.
- Post reviews of your favorite underground albums that nobody cares about but you
Oh good! So you'll all ignore me when I post something from my band. Couldn't ask for more!

I don't take music by decade. Walter thought that Poison and Motley Crue were more imaginative and talented than Opeth and Devin Townsend. His philosophy claimed that Styx was more talented, original, and artistic than either Ayreon, Ween, maudlin of the Well, Pain of Salvation, or what have you. It's not wrong, but it is something I don't emotionally agree with on any level. I love Stevie Wonder as much as I do Devin Townsend. I love Lennon as much as Will Oldham, The Beatles as much as Ween, etc.

Pity, I always liked him. I don't like much music after 1989 either.

You wouldn't happen to have a link to the thread where that happened, would you? I'd like to see that.

You're kidding, right? I had no idea. I've been so wrapped up in having a family that I've not the slightest inclination as to the going-ons of this place. Walter, suspended? What did he do to cause that?

Here are some wondrous steps in acclimating yourself with this particular scene:
- Ask yourself "What is prog?" - Realize your answer is probably a bunch of subjective garbage. - Post a poll that's been posted before - Openly berate yourself to hide your self-adoration - Use big words to impress folks, specifically like 'acclimating', 'proclivities', or 'boner'. - Hallucinate that your opinion is important and special - Post in the Shred Room accordingly - Pretend that you don't illegally download music - Meet WalterDigsTunes - Argue with WalterDigsTunes - Keep yourself up to date with the current trivial memes and popular interests (this quarter is My Little Pony) - Post reviews of your favorite underground albums that nobody cares about but you
Irreverently yours, Dustin "Alitare" "cockface" "Rush-hater" "Facetiousness", the evitably imitable.
Post-Script: Welcome to our hive-mind nightmare.

I don't like any of those bands except for Rush, but I am glad you are here anyway. Welcome aboard, sir!

Greetings humans!
It is I, Ziltoid the Omniscient. Er, well no - Devin Townsend owns the rights to that name. As you can see my name for all intents and purposes is Seleras. Nice to make your acquaintance.
Currently I'm listening to bands such as Devin Townsend Project, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, The Pineapple Thief, Unexpect, The Mars Volta, Coheed & Cambria, Rush and *Frost. I also play guitar/write songs and do so in a way which likely reflects my adoration and respect for those bands.
I look forward to making forum posts that show how little I probably know about progressive music and in turn being schooled accordingly!
If you have any questions about my many proclivities and curiosities please do ask.
