  1. Bob C. Benberg (actually Bob Seebenberg) is (or was, if there's been a death or a divorce) the brother-in-law of Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorman.
  2. King Crimson lyricist Richard Palmer-James auditioned for both Wishbone Ash and Supertramp as a guitarist ON THE SAME DAY! He copped the Supertramp gig and appears on their first album (in the days when they were supported by an eccentric millionaire).

I am one of only about 1,800 people in the world with an original M400 Mellotron!

There was a guitar player in Genesis between Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett.

He is Mick Barnard. who was an official Genesis member (unlike Chester and Daryl) between November 3 1970 and January 10 1971.

They played 30 concerts and one TV appearance with him until January 14 1971, when Steve Hackett finally joined.

Few people even know this guy's name.

BTW: To make it more unusual, Barnard was the first Genesis guitar player  filmed with  Genesis for a TV appearance ever (BBC - London)  called DISK 2, a show that was sadly lost for ever.

Iván.

Just before the Sex Pistols got their big break, they supported obscure UK prog band Strange Days at The 100 Club in London in 1977 (talk about different styles of music!)

An obscure band named JETHRO TOE released a song called  Sunshine Day Wink.

Well, as you can imagine it's a typo or a counterfeit (not sure which) for Jethro Tull made by the label MGM (or by a guy who made an illegal recording),

I still bang my head with the walls because I had it in my hand and didn't bought it at the expensive price of 20 bucks back in 1977, today is a very valuable collector's item.

And I understand that it is very difficult to get a good look at it because they placed a Joni Mitchell album in front of it.

In other words, it is obscured by Clouds.

It's a genuine typo - ironically the counterfeit copy fixes the typo:

(this is the counterfeit)

Even more ironical than I believed.

And more stupid of me Head on wall I didn't bought the copy in 20 bucks because I didn't knew the song, today is worth several hundred dollars, maybe a couple thousand.

Thanks Dean, this story has many legends surrounding it, I even read once that the original name of the band was Jethro Toe, and that Ian thought it was silly...Of course false, because the original Jethro Tull

Invented a seed drill, something that goes with the Pastoral sound of Ian's flute.

Iván.

"Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part Two" was adapted for big band and used in the original soundtrack for the softcore porn film Emmanuelle.

,,,and done so WITHOUT Fripp's or anyone else's permission. Fripp sued - and won.
Further Crimson obscuria...
  1. On Crimson Mk2's last tour of North America in Spring 1972, the atmosphere within the band wasn't all it should have been. During one gig, Mel Collins acquired a screwdriver and spanner, and reduced his Mellotron to its component parts ON STAGE!
  2. The only King Crimson musician to make a MUSICAL contribution to "In the Wake of Poseidon" was Fripp. During their first tour of the States, Ian MacDonald and Mike Giles announced they were leaving the band, but completed their duties. They officially left KC when they emerged from Passport Control on/about 18/12/69. That left Fripp and Lake (and Sinfield, but he wasn't a musician), but in early 1970, Lake went off to ELP. King Crimson were contractually obliged to release another album, so Fripp HIRED Lake (purely as a singer, as Fripp thought he wasn't a natural bass player), Mike Giles, his brother Peter on bass (accidently reforming Giles, Giles and Fripp) and Keith Tippett on piano. Mel Collins came in later. Fripp later asked Tippett to join Crimson, but Tippett declined. As payment, Lake demanded (and got) Crimson's PA system, even though he left the sessions early, requiring Fripp to bring in Gordon Haskell for "Cadence and Cascade".
  3. It's been mentioned that Fripp was invited to replace Peter Banks in Yes, but he was also invited to join Aynsley Dunbar's Blue Whale, which he also declined.
  4. Mark Charig contributed his cornet/trumpet to "Lizard", "Islands" and "Red". However, on the sleeve credits for "Red", they mis-spelled his name as MARC Charig.
  5. It's also been mentioned that Crimson lyricist Richard Palmer James was Supertramp's first guitarist, but did you know that he auditioned for Supertramp and Wishbone Ash ON THE SAME DAY!
  6. Not obscure at all, as it's on display to the world (if you've got the VYNIL album) but on the cover of "No Pussyfooting", Fripp and Eno are seen playing card games. If you look closely at the cards, they are pornographic (well, what would be considered pornograhic in 1973!)

Peter Bardens, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green and Rod Stewart featured in a band called Shotgun Express. They recorded a single in 1966 and disbanded in 1967.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Latimer Ferguson and Ward were playing for Philip Goodhand-Tait....
(Years ago I suggested Goodhand-Tait for inclusion and I think was rejected)

Bassist/vocalist Johnny Gustafson of The Big Three, Quatermass, Hard Stuff, etc. recorded a solo album in 1975 that was not released initially. Angel Air has issued it more recently on cd, and it is called "Goose Grease", a nickname Gustafson gave for one of his mother's "homemade cold remedies"
