It seems like whenever I've seen people poke fun at symph-prog lyrics, they use "elves" as the stereotypical subject matter. The strange thing is, I can't think of a single prog song with lyrics about elves. Can somebody help?

Do Radio Gnomes count? At the risk of sending Dean into an apopoplectic rage, I think the (lazy) association of elves to Prog has been forged by another (lazy) association of  fantasy Prog lyrics to Tolkien et al.

Oh the mighty Valhalla, have you forgotten all those times we travelled with our elf friends?

"Three for the Kings of the elves high in light,
Nine to the mortals which cry."

-- "The Lord of the Rings"

"In my thoughts and in my dreams, they're always in my mind.
These songs of hobbits, dwarves and men, and elves,
Come close your eyes. You can see them too."

-- "The Bard's Song (In the Forest)"

"The Dark Elf" has the classic line "a dark seed of evil is grown", acknowledging that the word "elves" and the word "evil" have three identical letters.

Finally, "Valinor's empty now. Allied the elves and men, they shall be damned. Rise of Fall, a dark tale ends." -- "A Dark Passage"
