Well the new Queensryche Dedicated To Chaos is much less enjoyable than their covers album, but that's just me.......

Rock N Roll Prophet is special though.  Not only is it thoroughly bad material, but Rick goes the extra mile and supplies his own vocals.

The little I sampled of it was awful. And I love old Queensryche

And I even like stuff like Mindcrime II, but the album this time is not only radio rock, but mediocre radio rock at that. Their old stuff is incredible, so it makes the disappointment sting even more.

California is one of my all-timers too - but I do enjoy the manic nature of 'Self Titled' - is it all the juvenile stuff between (and during) songs that ruin it for you? Or something else? Keen to see what you think

I find that kind of juvenile humor amusing actually, and the audio clips that are sprinkled throughout is an element of the album I do like. Part of the problem for me is due to Mike Patton, because he was using his higher-registered, "bratty" singing mostly, just as he did on Faith No More's The Real Thing around the same time (early 90's). Plus, the songs on Mr.Bungle seem to be trying a bit too hard to be weird and crazy (if that makes any sense). It might be all a bit too much for my ears now than when I was much younger, when I had a more favorable opinion of it.

I like how the band "matured" and Patton's singing became more dynamic since (as well as in latter FNM albums and his newer solo works, too).

In case you're wondering I think Disco Volante is a great record (it splits the difference between the debut and California). If I gave it more thought I'm sure I'd think of a worse album on Progressive Archives than this one, but it was the first to pop into mind.

I think all three are masterpieces, and it is a tribute to their genius how different they are. They were kids still, really, for the first album, and it's a juvenile delight. I don't listen to it much now, but it was so revolutionary for its time.

I have to admit I love the Mario Bros bits, and the Mr Bungle dialogue is funny. And now that I think about it, I suppose I even like the Blue Velvet sound bytes. Adds bit more creepiness to the album. I though that 'Suqeeze Me Macaroni' tries pretty hard, and even the bridge area of 'My Ass is On Fire.'

Yeah, the bratt-voice can wear thin too. I always enjoy Angel Dust more from FNM because of, as you say, the new dynamic he begins bringing in. And I was gonna ask about Disco which I love too, more scattered than self titled, but it has a charming unfocused feel.

That's a great point, they were pretty young, then, huh? And I know it destroys anything I could have managed at that age! Yeah, me too California is a triumph.

Well, I haven't changed my mind about Mr. Bungle (the album), but I do love that some were passionate enough to jump in and defend it.

It's a trick question, all of them.  You want good albums, go to jazzmusicarchives.com.  And don't confuse me by mentioning that there are some albums present on both sites.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

First I would like to point out that I hate the ELP albums as "Tarkus", "Trilogy" and "Brain Salad Surgery". For me, albums like this represent the worst of progressive rock. But surely there are far worse albums out there that they, and the amount of positive reviews for them to prevent me from saying that they are the worst in the site (but each with their opinion). Also, my journey into progressive rock is just beginning. From all I've heard the worst is definitely the premiere of Genesis. Even the album's 80 years has more to offer than he.

About the forum, is the same as many others: people begin to express your opinion, arerudely confronted by others and fight back even more crudely, creating unnecessary discussions. Where is the freedom of expression? If each standing what you think aboutthis or that album, so good, but ... to imagine that someone will answer my opinion (or not ...)
