Yes is cool but they lack the edginess and lyrical sophistication of Rush. Plus Geddy sings better than Jon.

Lyrical sophistication?  Confused  I do like Geddy's singing more than Jon's but I'd be in a minority on this forum in saying so.  Anyway, Yes had much greater capacity to reinvent themselves so in spite of their being far more inconsistent than Rush, they get my vote.  Rush's style has pretty much been frozen since Permanent Waves with only minor and not so significant changes from time to time.

I love Rush!  Definitely one of my top 30 bands, maybe top 20. But Yes is in the top 5 for me.

This is not even close to me. Rush has some nice songs and albums that truthfully I have grown to love less given time. Yes release 7 timeless albums, and Steve Howe is still my favourite guitar player.

Major Yes-head here.

Rush are in my top 3 while Yes are in my top 5 bands.

Yes at their very best were everything that is good about prog summed up in a beautifull package ,but if I had to listen to either bands back catologue from front to back then Rush would be a more interesting listen. I don't care for 90125 or The Big Generator. I do like Talk but Open Your Eyes bores me as does Keys and just about everything else Yes has done since Talk. Rush have perhaps become a little ordinary over the years but Counterparts and Vapor Trails are still excellent hard rock albums with plenty of decent songs. In the right mood and turn the volume up these are way better than anying else Yes has done post Talk imo.

Ah, a Jon hater.  I would give Yes the edge in all of the reasons you cite.  Yes didn't do edgy all that often, but when they did, they outdid Rush by a fair amount.

For the record, I don't hate Jon's vocals. I actually think they're pretty good. It's just that Geddy sings better IMO.

The two classic prog bands, which I don't like at all. But I will vote for Yes because of Rick.
