Does New Zealand have a native language? (Other than English?)

Well, the Maori speak Maori (who'd have thought). English is the major language though.

(please excuse my ignorance) Is the Maori still a prominent group today?

Here you go.

Note to self: always check wikipedia LOL

Thanks. I'm a history nerd and I can't say New Zealand is my specialty, and there's always room to learn Smile

Our history is unique in the sense that (like Australia), we went from a bronze age society to a modern state in about 220-230 years.

Oh, do you study history? I did a major in it.

Esperanto?

lol does anybody actually speak that?

Google it, I have to do work now, but yes, there are native Esperanto speakers, it's insane. Obviously they speak English or something as well, but it's not even a good constructed language. It's only the most well known because the guy spent all of time promoting it instead of making it a good language.

lol wiki says there are between 10000 and 2 million speakers.  That's a pretty big discrepancy.

Yea Italian is good to. If you really want poetry do Latin, but that's a damn hard language to learn. Mostly because of the lack of teachers, sadly.

All languages suck.

I don't like the sound of French, though.
