General education requirements are the worse. A sure way to make you pay more than you should for your education... Dead

Yeah, the stuff I'm being tested on I will never have to learn for my major at all... Confused
Waste of my time and money.

It's not even that you won't use it; it's that you don't learn anything in the classes.

My life would be so superior right now if I was not forced to take Gen Eds.

My posting on PA this morning is enough evidence of the uselessness of General Education classes...

I am in favor of the idea of Gen Eds because I have some gay ideas about a well rounded education. They never seem to be implemented very well, though.

You're assuming that forcing a person to take a class that they do not want to take guarantees that they will learn something. You can't make a person well rounded any more than you can make that fat chick who hangs all over you at the bar look like Scarlett Johanson.

Especially because these supposed "rounding" classes usually are totally wasted and not-payed-attention-to by the students...

I like the Johanson-conversion idea though...

I could summarize my eductation like this:

-Pay a lot of money to buy books.
-Have lecturers go through the books and note important passages.
-5% of ideas for the test will not be from the book, but only an idiot wouldn't be able to take a logical guess at them.
-Do one worthwhile project a class, if that.

So, how much am I in debt in order to learn sh*t I could have learned by renting a few books from the library and taken a CLEP test for $50?

Now I'm working 30 hour weeks and going to school with 19 credits (23 next semester) and trying not to think about my debt or lack of life.

F**k anyone who doesn't think all manner of formal education in th US is retarded.

I also had a professor say something like, "You're in college. This should be your job. You should be putting 40 hours in schoolwork each week." In retrospect, I don't know how I didn't burst out laughing. It could be I was taken aback at how out of touch he was.

Idiotic Lecturer, every time.  We used to count the times one of ours said "um".  It kept us busy.

I feel sorry for the girl.  She's got no talent and when she's older, she'll likely regret her unwanted career choice.

Agreeing with the Education talk i'm finishing my main education in a couple of months and I know i need a very large break from it.Yet i'll no doubt end up having to spend thousands doing an Undergraduate degree just so I can look good enough to get a job. Stern Smile

And I read that Rebecca Black's parents paid a record company for the song so it probably wasn't even her idea

You read about her?

Wow.

She's hit our shores too, only a litter slower.  A few of my English friends started posting Friday up on Facebook.

Grr!

Can't she stay in America?

I've had some fantastic lecturers I'd pay a substantial amount of money for. But in general, give me a textbook and I'll show up with a question or two once a week.

We have a few excellent lecturers. We have the ability to record them and mass broadcast their lectures. Instead, we settle for tens of thousands sub par lecturers and pay thousands of dollars to sit through them.
