Windhoek, Namibia:
We have one band here who lable their own music "Progressive Sweaty Nuts Rock". Penilane cite Muse and Radiohead among other (not so prog) influences. They realeased a EP mixed and mastered at Suite Studios in Dublin, under supervision of Marc Carolan, FOH Engineer for Muse, The Cure and Snow Patrol.
More about Penilane to be found at http://www.myspace.com/penilaneband
Otherwise here in the land of the brave not really any bands with the lable progressive. Edited by King Manuel - February 20 2011 at 12:07 |

I know alot of people in alot of locations mentioned negativly and who see prog show pretty regularly... but in big cites you definately need to fall into the crowd to discover whats going on, and that means following the other scenes. Often indie and metal scenes have a progyer side to them if you get involved in your local indie rock and metal I would be surprised if you didn't find atleast one prog or prog related tipe of band, and don't expect it to be your favorite type of prog. This is especially true in big music cities.
Personally I live in a tiny town that has little of any music.

Agreed. I've explored a few different scenes in the Boston area including the Death Metal Scene which dwells in the underground bars in the metro area. Also, the punk/hardcore scene which exists in the clubs around here. I will say that I see not only prog elements in these types of bands, but I have discovered some heavier prog bands as well such as Powerglove (Which is arguably instrumental power metal) and a few female fronted Goth/Prog Metal bands similar to Nightwish (Also arguably more metal than prog, but still) truth is, prog can really fit in anywhere where there's rock or "pseudo" rock. They're out there, just gotta sift through the sand before you find gold.

I live in Wheeling, WV and the closest thing we have is a jazz group called Phoenix Project. Other than that, it's mostly country bands, unfortunately.

I've changed my name. I will now be known as Htom Sirveaux. If you call me Servo, I will not respond!! ![]() I'm glad to know that there's another Prog fan who's discovered MST3K. The Prog references in that show are hilarious! |

I live in Nashville, and though a lot of musicians record here, it's
clearly more of a country music scene. (Obscene might be the better
word.) However I have seen Neal Morse at a couple of restaurants around town. I don't know if he lives here or is just recording. I did not bother him, not being that big of a fan.
Also, Glass Hammer is from Chattanooga -- well, sort of. That's an hour and a half drive from Nashville. I've never seen them though. I'm not aware of any of these people playing at local venues, but I believe Glass Hammer gave a concert at a large regional science fiction convention a few years back. |

Here in southwest Virginia, we have bluegrass. Probably some of it is progressive, for bluegrass.

I live in Broomfield Co (a suburb of Denver). There is a really good prog band called Singularity from here, but they don't seem to play anywhere around town here. They did open for the Beard a few years ago but I regretably (sp?) I missed the show.

Yeah, Denver always seems to have good bands around, and alot of good bands come through Denver wich is nice, I lived in Aurora until last year BTW
You should check out The String Cheese Incident and Devotchka both great CO bands, not prog (although I would say String Cheese Incident is pretty damn close)

I live in San Diego, and if you have a prog scene in LA, let me know, I will gladly go there, since down here our chances are even less.

In Israel there is I guess a fairly surprising amount of prog rock fans. Most of them are into the usual Floyd and KC and Yes. Very few RIO nuts (me and a friend of mine more or less). But prog is strong here. There are a few great prog bands. We have Ahvak, but I was rather disappointed of their music (too much UZ clone. I like UZ but I don't want you sounding like them, do your own thing). We have Pissuk Rachav, who are pleasant. And we have Kruzenshtern & Parohod which are like klezmer hardocore with severe time changes. So we don't have a lot, but we have some. Oh and there's also me and my friends, but one gig's not really enough is it?

Thanks for the report! I've heard very good things about Israeli prog and must seek it out! This fellow's stuff isn't quite prog, but he's made a HUGE splash in the Middle East & I think his mix is excellent!! He did a final remix on a dedicated website, but the Youtube video is classic!! |

What people truly don't understand is that he's beyond prog. It is so progressive, that our mind can't translate the sound waves correctly and we think it's techno. That's why he's been attacking anyone. God! People just truly don't understand prog, do they...? If all of the could understand his prog (I call it ultra-prog), the world will be in complete harmony! I didn't know politics was so easy, I can totally do this !

BRILLIANT! Thanks for the reply! Autotune technology gets trashed since it is so highly used by rap/techno, but I love the potential for prog!! I need to learn more about it! Noy has done some amazing things, check him out on Facebook! His treatment of "We Are The Champions" by Queen is unreal! |
