I've tried to like them, I've tried quite a few times since I joined PA. But I don't like them. Why can't that be the end of the story?

Because the tracks I showed you sound like RPI and you like RPI.

because liking magma isn't abount the band actually being good or bad, it is all about being used to listen to crazy stuff.

And those tracks I posted weren't crazy.

Just really nice symphonic prog with occasional Magma touches.

I'm listening to Muh again.

Mmmm.

'tisn't.

It's Hammill's best lyrical album and the subtlety in emotions he brings out of it is amazing.  VdGG isn't all about his shouting and visceral stuff.

The lyrics are amazing.

A lot of Hammill's lyrics on earlier albums are almost lulworthy at times.

Well, RPI, Symphonic Prog, Canterbury, Jazz and Magma.

You must have listened to different RPI to me.

more like Magma, Magma, fusion, jazz, Magma, and symphonic

understandable that somebody who doesn't like Magma wouldn't like it

I'd say that's a fair assessment.

+1

My thoughts exactly.

And I do like some crazy stuff that I discovered around the Shred. But I'll take Merzbow over Magma anytime.

The Magma moments are a lot less though.

Exactly.

Killer is a terrible song lyrically.

I love it though. Big smile

Oh come on.  The second "part" of Muh is very RPI.  It just has Magma-isms on it.  Ignore those and it's RPI and Symphonic Prog.

It has flute on it for starters.  Magma never used flute after this.

I think I'd take Merzbow too, which is surprising even to me

I can actually agree with this. Magma's first album is terribly underrated in their discog. Much more balanced than their latter releases (MDK, etc.), though not as good overall.

Jethro Tull has flute, doesn't mean it's RPI
