Regarding the VPO: "As it happens, all but four of those musicians are men, and all of them are white. Should this concern us? That, I believe, is a legitimate question. And here's another: How on earth could it not?"
Regarding NBA basketball teams: "As it happens, all but a handful of those players are black, and all of them are men. Should this concern us? That, I believe, is a legitimate question. And here's another: How on earth could it not?"

I also thought the problem is put in a slightly stupid way, but... I asked myself, If I were a Japanese top class musician living in Europe and I applied to a top orchestra, how would I feel being denied not because I'm not good enough, but because of a unspoken reasoning based on some very vague concepts of cultural / racial specificity that come from early 20th century writers who paved the way for fascism (like Spengler or Evola)?

I don't give a damn about if the VPO is 100% white or 76% yellow or 54% blue. They have the best damn strings in the world and hearing them playing Bruckner is something out of this earth. I'm quite glad with the orchestra as it is.

Obviously racism of the "We don't take your kind here" is abhorrent and ridiculous; my problem was with the author's assertion that the racial/gender makeup of the orchestra, taken solely by itself, is by definition "explicit" racism.

I like how Xanatos explicitly has "Banned" under his avatar.
And his sig is a PM from Tony R threatening to ban him. What was that Radiohead thread about?
he screencap'd a picture of the top trending artists on PA, of which radiohead was the most popular. He edited it by adding text pointing to 'Radiohead' "Seriously?!?!"...or something like that. And he added that to his thread. It was dumb.

He'd done similar stuff to Björk when she was added.
