I'm definitely going to start going to non-classical concerts once I'm in college though. I just hope I can afford tickets.

You can see a lot of quality shows for around $10 at the Church. It's also walking distance from Penn's campus.

Which Church? And what bands have played there? I'm not familiar with the venues west of the Schuylkill [it took a very long time to learn how to spell that word].

The First Unitarian Church @ 19th and Chestnut. Lots and lots of bands have played there.

Some highlights for me were The Dear Hunter and A Silver mt. Zion.

I had tickets for Kayo Dot and Secret Chief's 3, but I was unable to go due to personal reasons. I still cry about missing that show.

That's a good point.  I don't know where that copy of Still Life is... I'm sure I still have it.  I'll have a look.

IDM is a broad an imprecise term and I'm loathe to use it recently.

Aphex Twin is about as far as I go into drill n bass/drum n bass. Not a big fan of Venetian Snares. Love Autechre. Minimal techno, Detroit techno, Ambient techno, Psytrance, Downtempo, Trip Hop, some Trance. Dats mah sh*t nigga.

Taking my dad; I took him to see another Mahler symphony (2nd) performed last year.  The acoustics in Verizon Hall blew him away, he told me it was the best he's ever experienced.  The pipe organ there is just epic.

My mate at University was an Aphex Twin fan but he also liked Sven Vath.  What's he come under, genre-wise?

I see mostly chamber stuff so I'm usually in Perelman. I'm too much of a classical concert going newb to have noticed anyway though. I'll listen for epic pipe organ next time though.

Looks like you guys will never sit through a complete listening of Einstein on the Beach or Music in Twelve Parts, then. LOL

Oops, they're only 3.5 hours or so.
