going to spin this vinyl because I haven't yet paid tribute to the fact that the band has called it quits (much to my eternal dismay) - bought it at one of the best damn concerts I've ever been to in my life.

You can actually see me in the "Great White Northern Lights" video for a split second if you look hard enough.

I was really sad about that Mike.  Love the STripes, especially after watching Northern Lights.  What a great swan song that was.  They will be missed, but I can understand their wanting to stop if their hearts weren't in it anymore.

I agree, and I really respected that they said that they didn't want to exploit it if they weren't into it anymore. At least we have a decent legacy to remember them by if they decide never to reunite.

I always loved De Stijl and Elephant, they got played a heckuvalot in high school for me. Icky Thump has probably become my favorite of the bunch though. Plus their music videos with Michel Gondry (one of my all-time favorite directors) have always been awesome.

De Stijl is so cool!  And the first one.  Icky is the only studio album I don't have.  I guess I should get it, eh?

It's very different than the rest. Very raw and heavy - bluesy. Apparently they really wanted to go in the other direction from Get Behind Me Satan.

Oooh, nice Mike.

Did you know there is a DVD where Jack sits down with Jimmy Page and The Edge to discuss their mutual love of guitars and rock music.  It's a bit contrived on the outside, but there are many nice moments.  Well worth seeing.

Haven't seen it, but I know if it. Will have to hunt it down. I also really love their first concert DVD "Under Blackpool Lights" which was all shot artsily in Super 8mm film which made me really happy to see.
