I'm conservative so it's five from each period:
1) Genesis 2) Pink Floyd 3) Yes 4) ELP 5) King Crimson 6) Marillion 7) Flower Kings 8) Spock's Beard 9) Dream Theater 10) Porcupine Tree
With apologies to Camel, VGG, Renaissance, Rush, Pain of Salvation etc.....

If we're talking top 10 strictly prog bands, then here are mine, not in any order:
Rush Porcupine Tree Yes Pink Floyd Tool Riverside Karnivool Oceansize Sky Architect The Pineapple Thief
I also have a lot of other prog bands to listen to, so for me, this is a very early look at my love for prog!

Top 6 at this moment:
Opeth Genesis Van Der Graaf Generator Yes Eloy Camel
Those would surely be on my top 10. Then the last 4 spots could be for either King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, Sinkadus, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Gentle Giant, ELP, Nexus, Flower Kings, Marillion or many many many others...
