My last review of an Italian Prog album:
![]() ![]() It is important that you understand the importance of Lucio Battisti for the Italian prog to understand Lucio Battisti's music. So you can understand one of the 10 most important artists of the Rock! Enjoy it! |

album art is made by the drummer's wife. i did the layout for that... let me know what you think about the final result, when you get that... :)

Hi there.
I´ve been a huge fan of RPI ever since I encountered it through PFM 3 years ago. However, I find it hard to get into the newest releases for some reason - although one of my favorite records is Il Bacio della Medusa´s second record. Do you by any chance have some recommendations? I´ve tried Finisterre and maschera di cera but haven´t really been persuaded yet - still trying though (Trying to get hold of Il Grande Labyrintho). I love Area, Canzoniere del Lazio, Semiramis, Cervello, Procession and Il Balletto di Bronzo´s Ys - yeah well etc etc... Cheers David

Hi David, if you love the 70s stuff there's plenty more where that came from. If you really want to try newer stuff, here's a few that come to mind looking at your tastes...
Architrave Independente Areknames Il Babau I Maledetti Cretini Baroque DFA Deux Ex Machina Minstrel Natural Mystic 3 Monks Universal Totem Orchestra Yugen Good luck. Frankly, giving people recommendations is the hardest thing for me. Naturally everything I enjoy I want to suggest but the list is too long. It's very hard to narrow it down, then who's to say tastes will match? Always hard, but here you go. I hope you find something you like ![]() |

Well thanks a lot you guys!!!
I know how hard it is to make recommendations, but at least it narrows things down a bit for me - so I won´t have to look too much in the dark. I just received DFA 4th - and from what I can gather - saw some previous posts - that seems to be a big hit. Got the Yugen one too - rrrrraauw it rocks! I know it´s in RIO, but that is really what I love about the Italian scene, there seems to be no templates, and that suits me just fine. That Nuovo Era is also high on my list - thanks for reminding me Andrea. By the way - any of you guys know the Demitrio Stratos solo records? I love that guy - maybe one of the most progressive vocalists I have ever come across.

I do not David, but I do suggest the 1978 Area disc, which is one that many Area fans seem to skip. There's no reason to, it's wonderful. Maybe you already have it.

That was actually my introduction to Area - with Vodka Cola being my absolute favorite song. Love the weird doo-woop vocals

The live album is perhaps my favorite Area record. Their drummer is just out of this world, and I wouldn´t have thought they were able to transfer that overpowering sound onto their live performances, - but it is a pure joy to listen to.
I´d give just about anything to go back in time

If Italian scene please you a good band is OUTOPSYA (http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=5869). Their are listed as Experimental/Post Metal but it is due to sound and instruments that Outopsya use. And the classification is only a secondary detail!
This is my review:

mmm, never heard of them before. Good discovery, Mandi. I know Rovereto (town home of the band) like the whole Trento province... wonderful places and mountains... I think OUTOPSYA don't need any further inspiration... Edited by Andrea Cortese - January 25 2011 at 14:54 |

Finally... got it!!!
Have only listened to the first half... there's a touch of Delirium, some interesting jazz excursions (as in La Chimera, 5th track), spoken words in the opener, good guitar riffs by Ricky Belloni of Nuova Idea and New Trolls fame, female voices... hmmm... it seems a very rich production but it's too soon to judge. ![]() Edited by Andrea Cortese - January 26 2011 at 05:21 |
