My computer did that for a while.  I opened up my tower and checked stuff out, turns out the wires to the DVD drive were loose.  I pushed them in and it's worked fine ever since.  Make sure the computer's not turned on if you try this though. LOL

I'm also guessing it's a hardware problem, since what I could find with my knowledge+Google didn't turn up any software issues, as well as it being inconsistent from boot to boot. But it's a laptop, so taking it apart isn't so easy.

I'm used to sh*t like that. I once saw a book called "500 Greatest Rock Bands" - Good Charlotte and MCR were in the top 200, and King Crimson was 491.
