I'm looking at a Telecaster for around $700 NZD, or perhaps a Strat for 1k.

Excellent. That's a very posh and affluent area, so accommodation maybe pricey. Unless you're staying in Halls of Residence?
But still, hopefully you'll get here. Although I'm not sure exactly how available I'll be next year yet. I am sure I can fit you in though.

I am on hold with the IRS. They used to play Tchaichovsky (sp?) while on hold, now they are playing some easy listening soft jazz with the same repetitive 6 notes over and over and over and over and over again. Reminds me of Hallogallo from Neu!

Damn, you have September-December of 2011 booked up already? I had no idea how popular you were. 
Just remember, you owe me one of these eventually! 
But yeah, I am going to try and just get housing in one of the halls, my advisor said that's not going to be the easiest thing to do...but it would be a good chunk of change to live off campus from what I hear.

Seconded. Strat if you really really want to sound like a retro pro. Ibanez if you want to embrace metal all along and whinny Gibson if you want to play soft and smooth...

Well, the shop I'm looking at has a good deal on Teles at the moment... so...
Anyway, Toby Driver uses a Tele, and Kayo Dot rapes.

I'm not a fan of the acidy tone they get out of Telecasters. And I also think they're kind of ugly.
But don't listen to me because I scarcely know anything about guitars I guess.
