Topic: An Acoustic Evening with Jon Anderson Posted: December 02 2010 at 12:07 |
My girlfriend and I saw Jon Anderson last night at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles and it was SO magical, as she so rightly said.
Spectacular performance, stunning presence, humorous, and just an absolute pleasure.
It was just him and acoustic instruments and a keyboard. He mainly played segments of songs (some long, some not so) from Yes, his solo stuff, and diddleys he composed.
A few songs he performed included: "Long Distance Runaround", "To the Runner", "Roundabout", "Soon (The Gates of Delirium)", "Starship Trooper", and much more.
Although it was shorter than most concerts (about an hour and a half), it was well worth it.
The real highlight (my girlfriend might object ) was when he performed "Starship Trooper". Playing guitar and vocally performing Howe's solo in the "Wurm" section was just so grand. He was just belting it out! He received a standing ovation after finishing the song
Just a few thoughts of what I considered to be a great performance.
I might post a few pictures later, given my girlfriend is able to upload them.
Has anybody else seen him or are you planning to?
I would really love if Jon (and Rick) could get back with Yes and tour. The classic 5.

I've got a double live CD of solo Anderson. I did a review. You'll probably want to get it if you don't already have one.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Jon's had that Olias thing for quite a while. I saw him at the Moonshadow Saloon in Atlanta on the Animation tour. There wasn't much height to the stage and he banged his guitar on it at least once while taking it off.

It's been put to good use then.
I saw your review about Jon's live album and it's funny how it was in LA as well
I wonder if it was the same theatre...

Sounds like an amazing concert
Those pictures are alright, but I bet if you had a DSLR, they would look 50x better
Consider it!
Thanks for sharing!

iwent to the concert and it was really good. when i get there i was waiting for a friend outside and was talking with a guy who was asking anybody for a free ticket [ and he got one ]
.jon play a lot of yes that iwouldnt expect ,like Yours Is No Disgrace [ a really good version ] or Owner Of A Lonely Heart [ the story he told before the song it was wayy too funny .
the Starship Troope version was fantastic but for me the real highlight was Soon [ it almost make me cry ]
i also really like the song he play with the keyboard [ he dare to include a little part form close to the edge ] and the song ''Tony and me '' was cool
two more things 1.first time i going to the Orpheum Theatre and is a really beautiful place ,.2 jon is an a really good shape ,his voice sounds so clear the whole concert and he guitar playing is really good . fantastic performance ,if you are going to see him live is really worth it.

A member from PA WAS present at the concert.
My girlfriend and I were joking that there would be people from PA here, but turns out, it was true
Were you in the upper section?

It must have been great to see him do "To The Runner", love that song. He should tour the whole album and maybe someone will get round to reissuing it.

It was. He did mention a possible tour of "Olias of Sunhillow". Sure hope he gets around to that.

By the way, this makes you look like you are being attacked by a head of hair.

I didn't do that on purpose, in fact it ruins the effect. Just a copy and paste. The larger version looks like a kiss, the smaller one looks like you are being attacked by Cousin It.

People now know it was a kiss, not an attack on a poor civilian.

Ha! There were more people from PA
We should have all worn name tags with the PA logo and our Member Names...
Geez, that would have been really dorky. Nevermind.

Despite it being dorky, it would have been rather humorous
