I think they're just awful. I came here to read the discussion and write comments, not look at avatars. If you really have personality issues and need to bring up your 'face' to us all, try pasting the picture on the message.

I agree. It's the text that counts, not shiny little picture book. I would like the option to be customizable in members control panel: turn off all avatars and signatures. Whoever wants to look at them, can set the preferences in his own control panel.

I agree with Clarke, it would do well as a customizable Forum option. There are obviously people that like it, but I personally find it takes alot more scrolling than is desirable.

They kind of lose their coollness when they are enlarged like this. The small avatars were in the background and let people know who was posting immediately but now you have things that hit you in the face on every post. Subtelty is the key
