Wow, this is a superb interview. Clap

I just started doing interviews, but I don't think I'd be able to top this.

Nice interview and review, Conor.  Not a big post/black metal guy but love The Mantle and was sort of glad to hear Don thought AATG was a letdown, which I thought as well.  Looking forward to the new one for sure.

^ I have to admit I'd never heard Agalloch before.  But this comment alone has intrigued me, along with the others he lists--Magma, 90's Swedish prog, and whatnot.  I'll definitely be giving this band a listen (in fact I'm streaming some right now--beautifully bleak, in the same spirit as the Scandinavian greats).

Thanks Conor!

OK, I knew I liked this band......Big smile

Any favourite progressive or metal groups? What have you been listening to lately?

My favorite era of progressive rock is 70s Italian prog.  I’m always listening to Museo Rosenbach, PFM, Locanda delle Fate, Le Orme, Metamorfosi, Osanna, Semiramis and many, many others.

You might be right,i know for me it's the vocals that are key.I can handle the extreme music but not extreme vocals.Don's vocals are kind of unique, almost like he's whispering and growling at the same time.I like them.

Yes I would be careful, they said they find Ashes to 'polished' so they might be swinging back to a sound closer to the debut, which won't please everyone!

In Conor's review of the new one he does say it's darker and heavier but that it also incorporates aspects of each of the previous albums so it sounds promising.

Great band!  Great Interview!  Pre-ordered the album about a week ago.  This is probably the most anticipated album for me in quite a while, and your interview didn't help any Smile

Even if I've only heard about them in the last week, I'm already convinced they'll become one of my top ever artists. Now I'm even more convinced! Awesome stuff!
