Following the debate started by my previous poll "worst of the worst", I think this album requires a whole thread.

Anthony said:

1. It lacks melody
2 Roger Waters can't sing
3 It's not a Pink Floyd-album
4 Does he HAVE to tell us how bad the world is over and over again? Has he got so little inspiration that he can't write about anything else?
5 Where's David Gilmour? He IS the better singer!
6 It's an uninspired thing to pick songs which were thrown into the bin during the recording of "The Wall" because they weren't good enough.
7 Where's Rick Wright? He too is a better singer.
8 Where's Nick Mason.... oh, forget this one, he's not a singer and is not a good drummer anyway.
9 It may be progressive, but where's the ROCK?? Only "Not now John" is there to kick you out of the coma this album gives to you, but by then the album is (thank God) almost over.

This is a good list of things to comment. If you agree with most of the points above please vote for "The Final Crap", otherwise choose "The Final Cut".

I'm for the second.

I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Good album, if only for "The Gunners Dream" "your possible pasts and the title track.

Half of Anthony's posts on PA are about how much Roger Waters sucks, so I can't really take him seriously anymore.

Also, The Final Cut is one of my favourite albums of all time.

If one is so strongly convinced that Roger Waters sucks he must have loved Pink Floyd until at least Animals, so including Roger Waters. I think most of those say that Roger Waters sucks feel like "betrayed lovers", that can be a good reason to hate somebody.

However I have pasted his points because I'd like to move the discussion to the album itself and its contents (is it lacking melody? I think it's too melodic instead). Let's all forget our personal feelings about Roger Waters and discuss of music and lyrics.

Well when it comes to music, its low points are downright boring and uninspired. Not much happens with the music, sometimes nothing is going on. At times it can be amazing though.

The Final Cut is actually a Roger Waters solo album released as a Pink Floyd album. Nevertheless it is as good as an average Pink Floyd album. I agree that David Gilmour is the better singer - and musician, but the melodies and the lyrics require Roger Waters' singing.

Second option. It´s a pity there are only two options. If I think about my relation with The Final Cut, more accurately told would be perhaps "indifferent". I´ve listened to it several times about  20 years ago and I must to admit that I really don´t like this style of musician expression. I fully agree with Anthony´s arguments but I think "Final Crap" is too strong word and even vulgarism for express of my attitude to this one.

I think Roger's voice fits perfectly for this album, it took a while before I could take the time and listen to it, but once I did, I didn't hear anything bad. I pretty much liked what I was hearing, it wasn't amazing, but enjoyable. When I put on the LP maybe a month later I enjoyed it even more, it's by no means even remotely close to Roger's efforts on Wall or Animals, but it's still a good album.

The Pink Floyd album The Final Cut is rather good, but the Roger Waters album Pros and Cons of Hicthiking I find extremely boring.

This is a good album if viewed as a Roger Waters solo effort. I do not consider it a true Floyd album-no Rick Wright and no writing contribution from Dave Gilmour. Sound and song structures take after much of Waters' solo works, not Floyd. Voted crap as it relates to Floyd. If a Waters poll would say it's good.

It is in my top three Pink Floyd albums, probably third behind Animals and Dark Side of the Moon.

For sure it's more a waters album than a floyd album (but it's rather good ), but what about momentary lapse of reason ?a nice album but not a real floyd album even if rick came back to add a few keyboards parts here and there and nick doesn't even play the whole drums parts and had to work hardly to learn them and perform them on stage. The only thing that sucks is to name final cut as crap, it's silly and not prog mind at all

None of both. It's a fine album for me, very interesting and unique but not exceptionally good.

He called me a fanboy which is so way off the mark. I did say I hated his favourite band though which I must admit was a bit naughty.

Final Crap is how somebody (more than one) named it in the "worst of the worst" poll. Being this the origin of the discussion I have put it in this raw form.  I think "indifferent" should go to the "crap" option, unless you are indifferent to the whole poll...

One important thing: even if we can be passionate about a specific argument, I intend polls and threads "for joke only". I don't take them too seiously.

What I take seriously are reviews because somebody can put some of his money on them.

I like his fav band (in my top 10 until 2004) as much as I like Roger Waters...our problem I mean everybody's problem is that music is too strictly connected to emotions. Emotions can be "negative" for reasons that are not rationale.

I hate Marilyn Manson for the look and I switch to a different channel if I see him on TV, but the first time that I've listened to him on a radio without knowing who was singing I really enjoyed the song.
