Not exactly what you mean, but I played them all.

Sadly, many great games were released on consoles. I dare to say that most of great games were released on various console systems, through 80s, to 90s Psx, N64, to 00s Gamecube, Psx2-3, XBoxes (no Wiii, I'm not talking about you).

PC is still PC, more or less the same thing for last 20 years. You still can play DOS games through DosBox (one emulator to 99% of DOS games) and with a little bit of luck / patches, you can play Win95-98 games (I have problems with Master of Orion 2 on XP).

But consoles ? That's bad. I would like to play Simpsons - The Game, but I can't. Emulator for Psx2 is very demanding thing and it's not certain that this game will work. Actually, it didn't work two years ago when I failed to emulate this game on my PC.

anyone know what this is? It is addictive i must say...

Spyro the Dragon for me all the time, each of first three. I can imagine myself, 64 years old, still playing this.

MM, Baldur's Gate and those games aren't especially difficult to play.  Baldur's Gate is hard at the beginning, as you're level 1 but Icewind Dale isn't too difficult if you have the right players.  Persevere with it.

Also try Planescape: Torment.  You don't need to do much fighting in order to beat the game, so it may appeal to you more.  Not sure.

OK, I haven't tried Icewind and NeverW, just mentioned them (and forgot to say so :-D ), but Baldur's Gate ...

Maybe the problem is that I started with 2. With both datadiscs, but still, it's second episode. I certainly will persevere and sooner or later, I'll do this game.

Planescape Torment is (I dare to say) one of the best RPGs I know. It has this magical atmosphere of greatness (given world it's situated in, backstory, all possibilities you are given) ... words aren't enough to describe it's beauty.

Hehe, you mean my H. Bosch avatar ? Note that it's actually combination of left and right panel of this triptych (google for it if you want :-) you will be pleased by high res images). Nope, this 500 years old painting surely has no copyright by now. And if so, nobody will complain any more than having Travis with headphones. Good avatar though :-D

Nope, following Slartibartfast Halloween Earl, I decided to have something scary as well. And what's the most scariest thing ? To look at myself (lying on the road).

wait, you wont buy fable 3 because of that? Big smile

Unlikely.  A console-to-PC conversion doesn't usually float my boat.  Besides, the second game isn't on PC.  I like to play a whole franchise if I can.

Plus I've been told the games are kind of average.

KOTOR 2 and NWN2 were both better than the original. Much of the love for Obsidian comes from what it was before, though: Black Isle, creators of the Fallout series, Icewind Dale, and the best cRPG ever, Planescape: Torment.

Ask you guys, if you can recommend me something on PC, about 8-12 years old (not for 8-12 years old :-D ).

Need a genre, chief. There are lots of old games. BG&E was a pretty good game. Game sorta strayed from its picture-taking mechanic at times, which ended up weakening the overall game, but it was still pretty neat. As mentioned BG2 is good, and Planescape: Torment is the best cRPG ever (and among the best games ever made). You also might like Planescape: Torment in that you will die, but never... die. It's a complicated mechanic. The game is available at GoG.com these days.

Mm, they're not bad games, per se -- they're actually pretty fun -- just full of broken promises. The first game gave you a good-evil mechanic that was really wonky at times. If you wanted to be REALLY evil, the game often rewarded you with good points -- for example, catch a guy having an affair, take a bribe, then extort more from his wife. You get evil points for accepting the bribe, but good points for telling his wife and getting that reward. You also get good points for sniping the heads off of random bandits before they even see you. There's not much good about that, really.

Speaking of broken promises, Mr. Lionhead himself says that the PC version is taking time to optimize features for PC players. Any bets on that one?

Fable is made with the casual player in mind. There's a lot there, but not a lot of depth to any of it. Still it has a certain undeniable charm to it all. I want to play Fable 3, although I'm not going to go out of my way to play it either.

lol, PC games used to be better but now consoles are. I actually don't play games anymore, besides dumb flash bullsh*t, but being a PC gamer is just getting more and more annoying as time goes on.

I liked Fable 2 but the combat wasn't exactly fantastic. It's more of an experience than a game in the traditional sense. Don't care about Fable 3, although I'm sure it will be an improvement.

I got addicted to min/maxing with a walkthrough in Baldur's Gate, if I didn't I got crushed but when I did it was easy, I guess you're not supposed to get all the secrets but just some of them.

Deus Ex has awesome music, you are insane. The only bad thing about it is the semi-racist voice acting in Hong Kong...

Planescape Torment - played six years ago, truly one of the best games I've saw. Mostly because of story, atmosphere and setting (I enjoy reading Planescape-related things). However, even it's possible to die and go on playing after death, I never used this feature, I rather loaded and did things differently, better, not leading to death. It was tough though.

OK, there are. I played something here and there, said Deus Ex recently, Far Cry, Half Life 2, Fallout 1&2, as I said, something here and there. I'm not one genre type man, so I'm not sure if I can tell you what genre I want. I can play most of them (I even used to enjoy Crash Bandicoot, Rugrats, Spyro and Gex 3d, games referred to as games for children).

I sometimes play Age of Empires 2, but it's not interesting for me enough to play it for weeks. Or it's too complex and unrewarding. But I respect this game as one of the best strategies.

What about something like good old Elite 2 - Frontier, only in modern version. Something like Homeworld or Freelancer.

Or something similar to Beyond Good & Evil in spirit - action platform game they call it ?

Or complex strategy of Master of Orion 2 type.

Or solid action in spirit of Serious Sam 2 or Painkiller. Anything like that ?

RE: Deus Ex music - not my cup of tea, really. And I used to stick in locations for quite a long time, so music has become too repetitive.

Spoilerific discussion, highlight to read: You cannot finish the game without dying at least 3 times in the crypt. I also finished the game without having any party members die under my command, but TNO has to go down a few times no matter how you slice it. Besides, who didn't love hopping up and saying "Your turn!"?

If you're into building massive, ultra-complex commercial space empires, try X3. Of course, it's also a game you have to invest 4 or 5 hours just to get your bearings on the system, let alone play the game. The earlier game in the series, X2, might run on your system -- it's 7 years old now.

I would just call it an action adventure game, a-la Zelda. Older suggestions are the Legacy of Kain series and American McGee's Alice, if that'll still run. Most recently, Darksiders comes to mind, but that's neither here nor there. If you liked the stealth part, Thief II and III are good old ones, but first-person, and there's always the Splinter Cell series.

MDK2 for third-person. First-person... meh, there's always stuff like Will Rock, but nothing really great.

The DX intro theme will always have a place in my heart.

I think the first Legacy of Kain game is Abandonware now too.  Plus the guy who voices Kain is the same guy who voices Loghain in Dragon Age.

I am playing FFVI , but I have a little problem. I am stuck on the phoenix cave. I ve already cleared that part but decided to go again to beat the fire dragon , but now I cant get out! The teleport spell does not work and I am not sure there is a way to get out since when you meet with locke on the cave , there is a cutscene and you appear on the ship later. I cant figure out how to go backwards to where I started

Anybody remembers how to clear this part? I dont feel like losing 34 hours of play!
