Cool. It's just I've always liked Obsidian but disliked Bethedsa.

You can get the Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition that includes the regular game and all the DLC on a seperate disc for about $55 brand new. It's definitely worth it.

From what I've seen, it certainly looks much better than Oblivion but I'm still not sure...

Haha James you should realize that Oblivion has been received overwhelmingly positively by critics and gamers, and even more so after patches and modding.
Perhaps that makes your inability to like it even more frustrating. ![]() |

Not at all. Computer Game popularity is not like Music popularity. I just don't like it.

I tried to resist Fallout 3, but it was futile. Everything about it was cr@p besides the decisions you get to make, which had no real effect when all is said and done. Still didn't stop me from beating all of it including the dlc though. I told myself I wasn't going to play this one either since it's basically more of the same, yet it's been hard so far. I've checked Craigslist a few times today ...

NV weaves an interesting tale; FO3 is just dead inside. If you're playing for story, don't even touch FO3. |

It's Obsidian, so it must have a decent story and characterisation by default, yes? That's what it's all about for me. Good gameplay is good too, mind you.

Who plays open-world rpg's for the story anyway?
It's all about the loot.

I can't understand the love for Obsidian. What have they done that's good?KOTOR II and Neverwinter Nights 2 were mediocre sequels of really good games and Alpha Protocol was just bad.Plus by all reports New Vegas is LOADED with glitches,so that doesn't say much for the developer. Like I mentioned in the shred, NV is insanely buggy, and quite nearly unplayable on some nVidia GPU's. Whenever there's an NPC in-frame for those GPU's, the FPS drops down to about 10-15, regardless of other system specs. A friend of mine says it's unplayable right now for him, after having spent $90 on it. I've played the xbox version, which was alright, although still seemed too much like FO3 to be considered a new game, and the bugs were super noticeable/irritating on that version too. From what I've seen/played/heard so far, you're essentially paying for a mod beta, as far as quality goes. |

KOTOR = Bioware KOTOR 2 = Obsidian How much worse can NV be than 3 as far as bugs go? Fallout 3 had the worst bugs out of any game I've played in 22 years. I lost ten hours due to a game ending bug and had to start from scratch. I encountered another game ending bug the second play through, but luckily I knew better and had made saves like crazy. |

Oh, that explains a lot then ![]() A lot worse, seriously. The first time my friend launched the disc on his 360, the first NPC's head was spinning around, like in this video, and it happens with about half the other NPC's in the forced conversations. And there's a plague of other problems, like textures which don't show up, disappearing characters, Deathclaws which teleport when there's no need (I know that NPC's/enemy characters will usually teleport when stuck on scenery, but these literally end up on opposite sides of areas and stuff like that) and hands don't show up when using some of the iron sights. They've also done some fairly lame stuff to stretch the game out, like requiring 2,000 caps to enter the vegas strip, and doing a quest which is way above the skills of most players so far to get in otherwise. I thought Fallout 3 was fine, to be honest - quite buggy, but it didn't really hamper the gameplay IMO. This is literally like a bad joke it's so unplayable in parts. |

I've been saying this forever, but nobody seems to know what I'm talking about. Apparently, people keep confusing Obsidian with companies like BioWare and Bethesda, since they've made sequels and spin-offs of those companies' games.

^Can't seem to get it to launch, currently. First time I've tried to launch it on Windows 7, and all it's doing is demanding I insert my game disc (which is already in) and then crashing to desktop when I click okay.

Well the game's been out for two years so I'd hope they'd have patched the major issues already. Devs are rushing out games these days because they know they can always patch later. I've heard NV has a lot of the same issues such as getting locked in rooms, invisible weapons, etc. It's a massive game so some glitches are to be expected, but they don't have much of an excuse considering. Both games were launched in a poor state. I experienced this one, which ended my first play through entirely: I've been locked in rooms and would have been completely screwed if I hadn't made multiple saves. Still had quite a bit of backtracking because of it though: Plenty of major bugs in the game that numerous people encountered. Consider yourself lucky.
