I was just working off the little backing riff (hence the 7 times comment) and it instantly clicked as something I've heard before That's a great sample though, I like it when they actually use it in a creative fashion.

Joelkid: Yeah I agree. Even though Blood Money 3 is let down a bit by the lyrics, the use of the Renaissance sample is highly unexpected and quite refreshing/engaging.

I'm expecting Kid Sister's Let Me Bang (a particularly nauseating rapper btw, maybe I'll switch back into trying to use some good ones after this) to be another stumper but then that's what I said about Blood Money 3 and it was spotted right away so who knows ;)
As I said, I've heard this act sampled a few times and I never notice it- the nature of the noise they make always blends right into the beat, doesn't stick out much. There, that's a little bit of a clue ;)

The TD track is one of their better known soundtrack cuts, maybe Midnight Express or that one about a thief, I don't remember the name.

Feedback: Yes this thread is very intriguing! I never knew any of these songs existed with prog in them (though, not being a fan of rap, I wouldn't...). The Moonchild one was great if you ignore the talking; but I guess that defeats the object of the genre.

Seems I've stumped you again- you got the band (with a hint) but no one got the song. It's Love On A Real Train from 1984's Risky Business. *shudder*
Oh well, here's your next assignment ;) This is a hard one as the sample is not that distinctive, but it's from a song almost everyone here will have heard.
A hip-hop instrumental this time too, all you rap haters.

The second stumper in a row I see! I understand though because while this is a very well known song, the sample doesn't have a lot of character. It's one of those ones where you wonder why the producer didn't just recreate it himself.

I've got a lot more of these lined up but despite the praise the thread is getting (thanks guys) the guessing seems to have dried up a bit. Do people want me to do some more?

Hmmmm...I was trying to think of a PROG sample as the thread title suggests. Really that one wasn't worth the effort to be honest.

Well my remit is "artists who are on PA" and Bowie is on PA. I won't use anyone who's not on PA.
Here's an example of "progressive rap" that uses a prog sample which should be pretty easy to identify if you're a devotee of the band. The MCs, Slug, Aesop Rock and MF Doom are among some of the most acclaimed in the underground and it's about video games too!
