As a massive Scott Pilgrim and Edgar Wright fanboy, even the presence of the increasingly ubiquitous and one-note Michael Cera wasn't enough to take the edge off my feverish excitement for this movie. I finally got to see it on Friday and it outstripped my already unfeasibly high expectations. Not perfect, maybe, but as near as dammit as a 2 hour adaptation of a 6-volume comic is ever likely to get to perfection. I welcome your thoughts.

Never read the comics, but I loved the movie a lot, it was absurd and high energy, which is good.

I haven't seen it because I'm terrified by large groups of hipsters. D:

Super-duper awesome. Such a shame it didn't do well at the box office.

I haven't seen it because I find it impossible to care. But even though I haven't forgiven Michael Cera yet for Juno, I still wish him the best.

What did he do in that that he doesn't do in everything else?  He always plays the same character.

I really don't get this "hipster movie" thing. When we went to see it, my girlfriend and I seemed to be the youngest people in the cinema (she's 23, I'm 24) and I doubt you could accuse either of us of being hipsters.

And yes, it's a real shame the box office takings have been poor, but I'm not altogether surprised. It was never going to be a mainstream hit. So many people seem incapable of accepting the idea of a film set in a world where aspects of fantasy and reality are bound together in an organic way. The film lacks any indication that the fantastical/video gamey aspects of Scott's life are 'all in his head" and I think that puts people off, even though they're the same people who won't bat an eyelid at the cast of a musical performing highly choreographed ensemble dance routines and warbling about their feelings for one another then acting as though they'd just had a conversation. People are idiots.

I don't get the recent teen-movie trend of putting young women up on these ridiculously high pedestals.  Being willing to fight through evil, superpowered ex-boyfriends for a mildly attractive girl, the fact that superpowered exs would even give a sh*t, and then there's the whole Twilight thing in which a single chick can set off a war between two powerful ancient creatures.

I think you're misinterpreting Scott Pilgrim here. Firstly, he's pretty reluctant to fight any of the exes but they are constantly trying to fight him. The exes in SP evidently do give a sh*t or they wouldn't have created a "League of Evil Exes", would they? Remember that this is all a conscious reflection of the dramatic but crude and simplistic plots of video games. Ramona represents the "princess" character who must be "saved" by the player.

Also, "mildly attractive"?!

Evidently you have seriously high standards. Tongue

He was OK, but the movie was f**king terrible.

No, I do. Ron Howard's voice over makes Cera's stuff 100x better than it would be without. That was the note he hit well, then all this stuff he's doing now is the echo of that worthwhile note. It would be even more apt a metaphor if the note could grow a fragile hipster mustache and somehow attract attractive girls.

Falls a little short of being as epic as the comics but it's still pretty god damned epic. I love the comics and really enjoyed the film.

I havn't been lucky enough to see it yet but it looks fantastic. Michael Cera had a good thing, hes got a good style, but the fact hes done it in every single movie bugs me me. And this is from a raving fan of Arrested Development who also liked Juno Tongue
