Singing is not just range. That way, I have seen performances where Gabriel was having trouble with his high notes. Fish too. And neither go all that high.

lucas, thank you so much for putting up Join by Ice Age! Easily my absolute favorite modern-ish prog band.
As for the vote, Freddie without a moment's hesitation. Byron's falsetto wailing can make me wince like nobody's business, whereas Freddie's voice was never irritating. Not once. Edited by Lozlan - October 05 2010 at 21:09 |

No disrespect to Byron, but Freddie Mercury was the best!

For me, it's ફ્રારુક બુલ્સારા easily. Other operatic voices : Dennis De Young Michael Sadler
Russell Mael (the only singer who could compete with Freddie IMHO)
Josh Pincus
Czesław Niemen
Krzysztof Cugowski

Interesting, I once did exact same poll on another forum and everyone voted Freddie.
I love both... Freddie gets my vote for how he managed to sing on what became Made In Heaven despite the fact that he was on his death bed. |

Freddie easy. I find Byron's vibrato positively annoying and his style extremely affected. In many ways, he sounds like the precursor to LaBrie to me, minus the liking for AOR/glam vocals.

Freddy Mercury.
I'll mention Topi Lehtipuu who was in the band Hoyry-Kone which is included in PA under Avant, and performs as an opera singer. He's a very good vocalist. Edited by Logan - October 04 2010 at 12:20 |
