Topic: My previous posts disappeared? Posted: August 07 2010 at 13:05 |
Greetings, All -
I am curious in that I was very active on the message boards for a few months and then, due to extensive traveling, I was unable to post for the past few months.
Now, when I posted today, I find I'm back to a "Newbie" and it was counted as Post #1.
What gives???

Must have been a dream!
Seriously, no idea what happened to any posts you made. Any clues where you posted? There hasn't been any purge or anything like that.

I remember seeing you around before, that's true...no clue what happened to your posts, though.

Maybe the light went out ? What about using electric light-bulbs instead ?

All I know is that if I Google Keyspoet + Porcupine Tree, I come up with
at least most of my old posts, the majority of which were on the
original "The official Prog Archives Porcupine Tree Thread!". As of t that time I had made 48 posts.
Still not sure why they deleted that original thread, much less why none
of my older posts are apparently being counted any more, and had to start over from 1. Hopefully this won't happen again.
PA has a ways to go to be considered reliable.

It would be nice if there were a way to recover my old posts and add them to the new so as to attain an accurate count.
Any ideas?

Ask someone at Admin to restore to how many it was. Do you remember how many posts you had?

The Porcupine Tree thread was deleted (by mistake if I remember well), so that's why Keyspoet doesn't have posts any more, that was the only place where she was posting Unfortunately the posts can't be recovered.

Actually that isn't the only thread where I was posting, though it is where the lion's share of my posts were made.
It also doesn't explain why the posts I made to the new thread aren't showing up either, though I know I made several posts to that thread, both prior to and upon my return from Poland in May.

I recommend the Shred Room to catch up in a day. Seriously though, if you can't get them back you'll get more naturally sooner or later.

So I am not the only one with disappearing posts. It does not happen frequently, but I recently posted a comment on the nicest and ugliest Genesis album covers which I cannot retrieve. I cannot imagine why it should be hidden or removed by an admin because there was no offensive content. On the other hand, it was not important enough to start making trouble about it, so I just mention it here...

Not aware of any action being taken in respect of your post SE, it was not the subject of a "report".
Very hard to investigate though. Given the number of posts the site receives, and the minimal number of reports of missing posts we get, there doesn't seem to be a general problem.

I deleted the whole of the original Porcupine Tree thread by mistake It was me - I did it - I have no excuse, I selected the wrong option in the wrong menu in the wrong thread and it vanished never to be seen again - I'm really sorry and deeply embarrassed by the whole episode. I apologise for that, but there is nothing I can do to fix it apart from manually bumping up your post count to redress the error - I'm sorry, but I cannot recover deleted posts.
There are 8 posts from you in the new PT thread going back to August - what happened to any posts between May and August is a mystery to me.

When I saw the title "my posts have disappeared", and saw Snow Dog's name showing underneath, I felt a vague sense of relief...
