Any class can learn Stealing, and you can get the quest if anyone in your party has the skill (doesn't have to be the Warden).

TBH, you can do almost everything in the game in 2 playthroughs: a rogue (I recommend human noble for its endgame option) and a mage, one male and one female. Warriors only net you achievements, really. After that, just run through the other 4 origins and you've seen just about all the game has to offer.

It's kinda like BioShock, except with the heart and soul ripped out.

Been finishing it up, actually. Running around the Wasteland with my squad of Charon, Dogmeat, Cross, and Fawkes. It's shorter than Oblivion -- I've done all the sidequests, DLC, and main quest up to the very last regular (pre-Broken Steel) mission in about 150 hours -- but still fun. Mods are a must, though. I don't know what I'd do without Tougher Traders, No Respawn, Double Damage, and More Hairstyles. Actually, I do know: I'd be running around spending all day killing the same raiders and repeatedly resurrecting Crazy Wolfgang with the console, all while wearing a horrendously-ugly 'do.

Ha, the female haircuts are HORRIBLE! Theres only about 2 that make it even look like its a girl.  That being said, my female character looks damn sexy.
Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell?
I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance.

That isn't the case.  You have to play as a rogue (or have sufficient stealing and stealth skills as your Warden) in order to do those thieving quests (Slim Couldry's) in Denerim.  I don't mean the Crows quests.  The Crows quests can be completed with Zevran in your party.

As I'm currently a Dwarf Noble warrior, I don't really need those skills, so I cannot do his quests until I play as a rogue.

Playing as different origins also means different reactions from NPCs.  For instance, Gorim will give you the best discount in the game if you play as a Dwarf Noble.

Also, playing as a Dwarf Noble gives you a lot of backstory in regards to Orzammer.  Plus it's the best origin to play as. Wink

I've been replaying Majora's Mask. I forgot how wonderful this game is. It's like a much more detailed, much harder version of Ocarina of Time. Granted, Ocarina Of Time will always be in my opinion the greatest game ever made (along with Final Fantasy VII), Majora's Mask certainly is a fun game. I love all the places you can go to and all of the mini-games, too.

Would you like some Bailey's?

So I started off with the best origin, who knows where I'll go next playthrough.  It might take me a while to get to that point since I force myself to not play during the week and I don't play on weekends if something comes up involving friends.

The Human Noble origin is also good though and I think it's the canon origin too.

Actually, I checked the wiki and you're right. You need at least level 1 stealing on the Warden to do all of Slim's quests or level 1 Stealth (rogue only) to do half of them. Still, you don't have to be a rogue to get Stealing. As for the Crows, you don't need Zevran at all for those quests, though he does offer some interesting dialogue if you keep him around.

The Dwarf Noble origin is nearly ignored when you get to Orzammar. It's quite awkward. You'd think that a Casteless's brand would also come into play (Dwarf Commoner), but alas, the nobles are still willing to speak to you. The origin that has the most impact on how people view you is elf mage, as they both fear you for being a mage and can't stop calling you "knife-ears" -- but even that really doesn't move many.

Also, the best origins are City Elf (most satisfying in and of itself -- especially with a certain dialogue option in Ostagar) and Human Noble (gives a good drive to the game). I think the two Dwarf origins are pretty weak, though not as bad as the Dalish Elf disaster.

It is not. David Gaider, lead writer, has claimed that there will be no canon Origin. In DA2, the Warden will likely be referred to simply as The Warden, the Hero of Ferelden, or perhaps by an imported last name (all 6 are fixed).

Yeah, I've done just about everything there is to do in Dragon Age. If you need help with anything (character builds, advice, etc.), feel free to message me.

Hmmm most people (myself included) enjoy the Dwarf Noble origin the most whilst almost everyone finds the Dalish origin the weakest.

It may not be canon but it's very much linked with Awakening and Nathaniel Howe (you won't know who he is really without playing the Human Noble origin).  It also, as you say, flows the best out of all the origins, which makes many people wonder whether it should have been the canon origin.

As for DA2, it's still unclear whether the Warden will even be mentioned.  I am sure he/she will but as far as I've read so far, nobody (not even David Gaider or Chris Priestley) has mentioned this.  Flemeth will return though and Nathaniel Howe is likely to make an appearance (as he was in the Free Marshes during Origins).

At least Darth Gaider has said the God Baby isn't canon.  Gosh, it annoys me a lot people constantly wanting to know where the God Baby after DA:O.  It's not canon, so stop asking!  The same with the Ultimate Sacrifice, which caused a lot of problems with Awakening.

I have More Hairstyles for DA and it really improves my experience as well.  I'm still waiting on Qwinn's fixpack for 1.04 though!

True enough. The Dalish Elf one is just that bad. From a dozen-and-one straw polls, I always see City Elf and Human Noble take the top spots while the bottom is Dalish Elf and Dwarf Commoner. Mage and Dwarf Noble are in the middle. If I were guessing at pure popularity, I'd say it's HN > CE > M > DN >DC > DE. A complete poll might move one a spot this way or that, but not two spots.

Warning: Spoilerific! Highlight to view.

Every Origin fights and kills Rendon Howe. Nathaniel Howe will always accuse an imported Warden of murdering his father. The HN can reply that Rendon killed his family, to which Nathaniel says "Touche", but other than that, it's pretty origin-agnostic. If you're using an Orlesian Warden, he throws his accusations at the organization rather than the person.

It's just that he gives a particularly personal drive to the business of tending to the city, while other origins may just wonder why you couldn't take your army of golems and mages and be rid of the Archdemon without dealing with petty human politics.

It is my understanding that several things will be important, such as who defeated the Blight, who rules the lands of Ferelden, whether the Architect is still trying to end the Blights, etc. Flemeth will be around, but it will be before the events where she may have been killed -- she apparently shows up during the events in Lothering. I hadn't heard anything about Nathaniel being in the game. The game takes place over a decade, and Nathaniel returns from the Free Marches after a year or so (gotta meet up with the Warden at Vigil's Keep), so he can't play a terribly huge role.

For the God Baby, there's an upcoming DLC about Morrigan. We'll see where it goes from there.

I only played SW back when I played (exclusively -- 0 plays as others in 20 hours of playtime). I could give it a go, but the connection here can be dodgy, so it may not turn out well. If you search for Gamemako on Steam, you'll find me.

Just replayed Silent Hill 2- the final scene with Angela on the stairs is one of the most haunting scenes in video games.
Also it's interesting now I've listened to Nurse With Wound, boy were the Silent Hill composers ripping him off. In fact the whole J-horror sound thing in movies and games seems directly borrowed from NWW. I wonder if there's a direct link or if they come up with it independently.

And while I'm on Silent Hill, I don't think I will ever get over the movie of that game. It's probably the most ball-dropping adaptation of all time. All the elements for a great movie were there, THEY WERE RIGHT THERE, all you had to was put them on the screen. But nooooooooooo, they found a way to make it one of the worst movies of the year against all odds.

Tested. A bit laggy, but works nonetheless. Ping is fine, but packet loss really hurts. Anyone else up for it? For those who don't know, Alien Swarm is free on Steam and is on the Source engine, so it'll run on older boxes just fine.

not so much; it's on a modified source engine; minimum is 3.0GHz single core processor of (I think) 2.2GHz dual core
