So, as of next year it'll be five years since 10,000 Days came out... What are the chances of a new Tool album that year?

Given their release patterns, I'd say it's honestly anywhere from 0%-100%.

But I don't get what people see in them, so I don't really care. Tongue

Uh...

There's something wrong with this picture...

You mean besides the fact that I think Tool would improve significantly by making shorter albums with less filler?

I'm with David on this one... don't really see what the big fuss about Tool is. Lateralus has some nice tracks, but yeah, a lot is pure, unadultered filler.

f**k me, right? Tongue

Yes.  F**k both of you.

Lateralus is a masterpiece.
Agreed.

Because most long albums generally have too much filler IMO. Heck, one of my favorite albums from this year is a mere 28 minutes and has zero filler. Bands that make long albums with too much filler suffer from what I call "The Tool Syndrome".

What album are you referring to?

Lateralus is the closest thing to a masterpiece that Tool has made so far, but it isn't one. I'd say 3.5 stars at best.

Ænima is barely average, and don't get me started on Undertow or 10,000 Days.

The s/t Daughters release. If you like metal or noise, you definitely need to check it out.

Yeah.

I have listened through Disgustipated all the way though.  It's very odd.

Yeah, I agree Tool's albums are a bit too long. That doesn't prevent them from being fantastic though (except Undertow).

I also don't understand why Tool gets praised so much for their use of mathematics. Meshuggah's use of math is much more complex and original IMO. And more of a mindf**k too. Rawks

What about Sleepytime Gorilla Museum? They write songs about math professors.

Rofl.

Problem with Tool is, for some reason, they have a lot of crossover appeal.

I think what they did with the structure on Lateralus is f**king brilliant.

If we're comparing the degree of mathematics in each band, Tool would be Geometry Metal, and Meshuggah would be Calculus Metal.

Old speakers are re-attached.  I want Z-5500s now, but I don't want to spend $325+ on them...

That's because Tool still makes very melodic music, can be accessible at times (grunge influences), and has more mainstream appeal. Meshuggah abandons any traditional sense of melody and harmony in rock music, is atonal, is thrash-based, and is intentionally heavily inaccessible.

That being said, I think Meshuggah is still more influential on metal than Tool, but I think Meshuggah's more influential than Metallica, so take that for what you will. Tongue

See ya Jordan!
