I think they search feature needs to be more comprehensive so that we can avoid overlapping threads (multiple threads with the same topic). For example: I started a Golf Thread well over a year ago and the last post on it took place a few months back but search the word "golf" and it will take you to the "Search Error" page. The only other way I could refind this thread would be to go flipping back through page after page of old topics and I don't see the need to start a new thread when I've something to post on the topic.

When you search for a thread created more than 6 months ago, you need to switch from "Last Six Months" to "Any date" in the search option.

Change the dates covered from the default of last 6 months to any date, and you should find it OK.
Otherwise, the google powered search on the main page also covers forum activity.
