Topic: Brand New Very Experimental Song? Your opinion? Posted: July 24 2010 at 18:49 |
Hello, I haven't posted anything in quite some time. We've just posted one of our new songs off of our demo for listening on our myspace page, called " Psychodynamic". We are a progressive/experimental rock group and we just want to hear any feedback people may have on our music. We are just posting this song up for a day or two to see what kind of feedback we may get. For anyone that gives us a few minutes of their time, thank you very much!
Best Regards, Elektryk Bestia.

No comments at all? Usually you guys give us something...maybe it's not the usual prog song you're used to?

I liked it, but no bassist? I mean you don't need a bassist, but either that or the keys player needs to cover the low range more. Other than that it was good. I'm not really into metal/prog metal at all, so it wasn't exactly my kind of thing, but well executed. Nice job.
EDIT: Yeah I know I didn't have much to contribute, but I just figured some posts in here would maybe motivate others to come in. A while ago when I posted my bands song it drove me crazy that nobody would get back to me! I just ended up throwing it in my sig and saying hell with it, but eventually I got some responses. The people that come to the Music and Musicians Exchange board aren't here often, but when they come I'm sure you'll get good constructive comments.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, for this particular song our bassist was playing guitar so no bass. I can see where you're coming from, in regards to the keys. Thanks for your words..

Same time edit and post, epic. I figured you would have bass on other songs, which I planned to listen to eventually. However I'm pressed on time as i'm off to the Gov't Mule concert in a half hour. I'm supposed to be getting work done....but instead I'm posting here...

To be honest, it sounds sloppy to me. And I have a problem with the drumming.

Hey Logan, I agree with you on the drums as well. At least with the quality of the recording of the drums. Unfortunately we do not have alot of money at this point and the studio we recorded at was not at the highest level of quality in regards to drum recording. Now, maybe its not even that? Maybe you just dislike the style of drumming?

Himtroy, I'm listening to your music as well. It's quite a long piece but its real cool. Did you compose it all yourself? It's 16:42 in length.

I'm okay with the style, though I prefer more variety (interesting fills, and am more jazz drumming inclined) but it sounds in parts to be off-beat (not synching with the music). It may be a problem with the production depending upon how you recorded/ produced it. Nothing wrong with off-beat music, however. Certainly a better production could give it a fuller sound. I think you guys could be quite a bit tighter in that. Like to hear some live music if you have clips available. I'm not a good drummer (trumpet was the only instrument I was good at), and won't post anything of me playing live, but we do have some good drummers at PA, so it'll be interesting to hear what they have to say.

Logan, you are 100% right. I would love to get some new drum additions to my set for some added vibrance. For one thing I love to have a variety of toms to use and I currently only have 2 rack toms and one floor tom. Thanks for your feedback, by the way. It is very helpful.

Unfortunately it is only available for listen on our myspace for now. Are you having trouble opening the webpage?

Ok, so it's actually something going on with myspace. They must be doing some sort of update or something because the music player does not load up any music at all. Hopefully it will be back up shortly..

I was able to fix it. I had to upload a new song and then delete it to get the player to work but at least it finally works again..

I've been away from the computer for quite some time...
I composed the beginning up to the funky jam section, which kind of just happened in a jam (The bass player should be mostly credited with this riff), then we through around some ideas and just jammed out the rest of it. The middle section is pretty different every time it's played, then the jazz section always comes in at some point. So I started the writing, but it kind of took off as we'd jam it and we ended up with a kind of structure.
I used to always play guitar, but this is my first thing written since becoming a keys player (which has been about a year at this point). I always wanted to have an epic long song, and once a sax player came around and I started playing organ it seemed like it was time.
