Topic: 22 (band) progressive rock or not Posted: July 11 2010 at 12:26 |
22 is a wierd band from Norway, Trondheim which play an odd mixture of happy upp beat catchy riffs like 10cc, with mathematic odd time presission like Meshuggah, crazy vocals and riffs ala the Mars Volta, and other elements which arent logical or thoiught of
they are 100% progressive but not in Symphonic or Ecectic vein but more towards Heavy prog, Experimental metal, crossover, with math rock elemtents they are hard to pinhold.

I was planning to suggest these guys myself, but wasn't too sure in which subgenre. They play what they call "progpop with funk spasms" but definitely qualify for "progrock". Perhaps Crossover prog?
Alternatively post-/math rock, although I don't know that genre well enough to be sure. I don't think they'd fit into any metal category, unless they've released some new material lately.
The only thing I know they've released is the EP "E.S.P. (Extended Sensory Play)".

This poll makes no sense. What is "Yes"? Yes, but another genre than experimental metal? What, then, is "other"?
Besides, I doubt that more than 3-4 people in this forum know them.

I don't realy know I can bump this, I was a bit unsure to how to present this band, and I mostly see them as a heavy act, polorythmic, very close to Mars Volta in style, Im not very good at making polls.
Maybe I dont know what qualifies for Eperimental metal, one thing is that they go outside the bouderis of brutal metal, like Tool who are borderline between alternative rock, art tock and progressive metal,

From the samples, I can understand the 10cc comparison. I think they should be evaluated by crossover.
They'll accept anything.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Had a quick listen and, although I can appreciate the doubt among fellow prog lovers, I would look at this as eclectic as there is a blend of influences, stretching this well beyond the cross-over. It stretches the imagination, which sets it aside from the pop, as referred to earlier in the thread. Whatever classification, I think it should be listed here.
