Its ok.....I would accept the word "struggling" if I thought they had a chance....its more like anemic play.

Try non-major league sports......

You obviously missed the NLL Championship in May......your Washington Stealth won the NLL Cup at Everett Arena. Yea I know its lacrosse.......but its a heck of a lot more fun than watching krappy NFL or pathetically slow MLB.

So along with a NBA and WNBA crown..........we can now add a NLL Championship Cup.

Go Stealth!!! Certainly helps we have one of the best lacrosse players in the nation..... Paul Rabil. Dude has been clocked at 110mph shooting....sick.

The Seahawks were good for a few years.
And the Mariners had...2001

They only suck as of late.

The Buccos are on a 58-104 path. Thankfully the Orioles are worse than they are. Here's looking forward to the Buccos having the number 2 draft pick again next year.

I'm sure they'll get a good player from it too. Will he make 3/4 into the season before he's traded this time?

When are they usually mathematically eliminated? That's usually when they dump players for ones that will bolt or they trade off during the winter/spring.

Actually, the Mariners only took 1 game from Detroit this weekend.  The Tigers won games 1 and 2 7 -1 and 6-1.  I had a bad feeling in the 1st inning when the Tigs only scored 1 run off of Lee and stranded 2 runners.  It was sooooooooooooooooo hot sitting out there today.  Mid-90;s and not a cloud in the sky.

Also, it pisses me off to know end how the All-Star games always has so many f**king Yankees and Red Sox.  There is absolulely no reason both of those teams should have 6 players plus have a guy included on the vote in the last player.  A-Rod has no business going this year.  Verlander should be going and so probably should Brennan Boesch.  Boesch was rookie of the month for May, and I didn't hear who got it in June but he should have won it again.  Boesch's numbers in June were good enough to win the Player of the Month award (not just rookie) except that Josh Hamilton had such a crazy month and most like won the honor (or will win it).

Tis true...but except for "the principle of it" does anyone actually care about the All Star game? I never have.
And despite the recent attempt to make it matter, it hasnt had any actual impact on the WS.

I've watched the All-Star game every year for the last 30+ years and yes it doesn't mean anything.  It is just annoying that for so many years as a Tigers' fan we were stuck with our 1 required player and that was it.  Such player would usually get in in the 7th or 8th inning as a pinch hitter/pinch runner/defensive replacement (if at all).  I am still pissed at the year that Cal Ripken Jr was voted in as the starting SS even though he was batting just over the Mendoza line.  Alan Trammell was having an MVP season that year.  Ripken won the MVP that game (I think that he ended up playing the entire game) and Trammell never even made it into the game.

Anyhow, I digress.  Now that the Tigers are actually a decent team, the best that we can muster is 2 players, with both of them being players that they had no choice to take.  Also, the home team Angels only get Torii Hunter.  I know that they aren't playing that well, but the home team should get more than 1 player to cheer on during the game.

Hey man, I agree.
I dont know how many other die hard Yankee fans will admit to the unfair power collection with the NYY or the Sox, (or how many others support a salary cap) it f*cking sucks.
But until something is done...it is what it is. Does suck that the Yankees have a potential base of 20 million+ people to draw from, opposed to maybe a few million with Detroit but hey, that's capitalism for ya Wink

But yeah, I've always said there is at least one all star talent on any team, same with the NFL

Nick Swisher 287 AB .293 AVG; 13 HR 47 RBI .505 SLG

Brennan Boesch  223 AB .345 AVG; 12 HR 46 RBI .605 SLG

Swisher is having a decent year, but absolutely no doubt which player should be on the All-Star team, and which player shouldn't.  Especially considering Boesch wasn't called up to the majors until the end of April.

Youkilis' numbers are a little better with 17 homers and 54 RBIs, but his AVG .299 and SLG .584 aren't as good as Boesch.  I think that I would still give the nod to Boesch over Youkilis.  Not like we need another 1st baseman.

Delmon Young is having a good year for Minnesota but again no comparison.  He has 55 RBIs but Boesch is killing him in the other categories.

Yeah, Swisher is borderline, (which why I guess he has to rely on the fan vote thing)
A-Rod really doesn't deserve it because he was on/off for a while
Jeter is doing pretty good, but I think he has name on his side.
I agree with ya totally man.

Although Cano absolutely belongs. Guy has been on fire this year. For alot of the year been hitting near .360 and has been right at the top with HR's and RBI.
And I believe Phil Hughes made it in?
He's been pretty damn good as well

Michael Young has 11 HRs and 51 RBIs but these are in over 300 ABs.  AVG is only .303 and SLG is only .487.  I think that he should have been selected for 3B before A-Roid.

Both Hughes and Sabathia made it.  Pettite was left off even though he has a lower ERA.

Hughes is 10 and 2 with a 3.83 ERA and 90 strikeouts.
Verlander is 10 and 5 with a 3.85 ERA and 106 strikeouts.

Pretty comparable stats.  Hard to compare win - loss since often this is more a reflection of the team than the player.  I know that Verlander lost at least 3 games in April when he was struggling at the beginning of the year.  This one could have gone either way, and I understand that Girardi has the right to reward his player, but it is still frustrating when you are talking 6 players to 2.

And between the 3 of them, I think that Jared Weaver should be there.  He is 8 and 3 with a 2.82 ERA and leads the league in strikeouts with 124 and he is from the team that is hosting the All-Star game.

Totally understood. Like I said man, I agree with you 100%. But I really do think Hughes has played well enough to get that trip, even if he's not been the best. You can't say its a total BS pick.

And Cano has been, on and off, the best player in the AL, if not MLB. He for sure deserves a trip.
I was a little peeved that Pettitte didn't make it. But all the talk around town is that CC won't play the game since he will be starting a game just before it, and he will be subbed with Andy.
