Dude, I've heard of oversimplifying, but you just won the world cup.

People actually abandoned Detroit in droves. The jobs they could get didn't pay what the old ones did. But hey, as long as the system works to benefit the elite at the expense of the workers, what the hell?

I'm late on this thread, but I have a couple of things to say about it. 1) I've only seen one Michael Moore film (Roger and Me) and I thought it was the stupidest thing ever. Apparently Moore thinks that a profit making industry is suppose to continue to operate plants that are losing money because the people who work there refuse to move out of their hometown and find other jobs. I wonder how he would respond to demands that he produce movies that lose money in order to help feed the poor cameramen and gaffers.
2) The Bible is the most influential document in Western Civilization. No education is remotely complete without knowing about it. Obviously it should not be taught as gospel in public schools, but basic Biblical literacy is essential to every American, Brit, Spaniard, Italian, Frenchman and German (plus some others I'm leaving out.)

I don't think that there is anything wrong with being biased in a documentary that is meant to persuade. Of course, you only make your argument stronger by displaying the opposite side's claims and challenging them. Media that's meant to inform, that's a different story.

Care to explain why biased in Mike's case is a bad thing? Fox News is extremely biased and they claim to be fair and balanced. Mike is biased but makes no claims to be otherwise. It's one of those cases where there is right and wrong and giving equal time or pretending that wrong is OK is just stupid.
|
But Michael Moore DOESN'T give equal time. He edits the footage of his opposers to make them look ridiculous fairly often, then depicts his side of the argument as if it's impossible to argue with it. That's not just biased, that's unfair. Plenty of people on TV are biased, but few of them are ever as unfair as Mr. Moore is. If he would truly show both sides of the argument evenly, he could badmouth the opposite side all he wants, and I would still respect him a lot more.
Fox News sucks, too.

I agree with you. He IS more biased then a lot out there, he does edit it alot, and makes opponents look stupid rather than wrong. I wholeheartedly agree it'd be better if he could give the other side, and just argue it down, (which is how a good debater does it). But as for unequal time...that does happen with all. For school I actually timed the duration of guests, as well as their talking time and how often they were let to talk, and of course their agreement/disagreement with the host. Almost all shows give unequal time. Fox and MSNBC (which I do watch) are pretty damn bad. But all are to some extent.

I don't have a problem with it, and as you said he never did claim to be fair. Don't even get me started on FOX.... but you know me, just have to always throw it out there. Although there are obviously ALOT of people that may not be....sharp enough, to pick up on it and just believe him blindly. But I guess that happens with a lot of things.
