No Quiet One...This is my last resource when I have problems with one rating.
There are times when I'm in doubt between 3 or 4 stars, so if I can't decide I use this table and ask, Is it as good as Pyramids or Trespass?

I believe the problem with this guys is that they formed the band in the Genesis Forum when I was a member.
When they released their first songs, all the fanboys there, who want to listen anything that sounds like Genesis, praised them, even Collins Rutherford and Banks have signed as friends in their MySpace because they get free propaganda.
So the members of UNIFAUN have probably convinced themselves they are as good as Genesis, and their answer shows this, they believe that if they use the same instruments as in Foxtrot, the music is like the music in Foxtrot (They have in their memory what instrument Genesis used in what album).
But the problem is that you might use a Mellotron Mark II and Hammond C3 but sound nothing like Apocalypse in 9/8.
They will never get it.

Of course that was directed as a reminder to everyone who uses the report abuse thread as a discussion thread. I know it's a hassle quoting a post from that thread and discussing it here, though not as much of a hassle as it was for me to move a bunch of posts to this thread one at a time, but if people get into the habit of it, then it's not that hard. If they get used to it and abide by the expectations, then they won't post in response there to the post that reports abuse and this becomes the "hot zone". It's difficult for the admins to keep an eye on abusive reports when there's a bunch of non-reporting chat/discussion posts that obscure them. |

Yes, and I understand this. Still, I've been ignored many times when I've taken the extra step to: 1. Quote someone in the abuse thread 2. Find and open the discussion thread. 3. Address the original person in the discussion thread. 4. Expect the other person to find and respond to the topic. 5. Then finally, not be addressed in the discussion thread. I take this effort, and I go unnoticed? Not worth it, sorry. Done it for quite a while. On a side note, why is the reviews discussion thread in Help Us Improve the Site? Who will look for it there? I've been a member of this for a long time, and unless someone links the discussion forum, I still have to hunt it down. ____ And one more thing: I am not an admin, and I am a huge fan of our team here. But I would assume that it is not that hard to skim through comments versus actual reports. In fact, if I were an admin trying to gather information, I would want all the arguments in one place so I could seem them clearly and gather as much info as I could. Do the admin check the discussion thread simultaneously as they do the reporting thread? Many times people have good counterarguments for a review that has been reported. |

I meant the particular manner in which this musician in question was defending his own band By the way, is it logical to leave this 4 star rating from a member of the band on what would otherwise be a 2-3 star rated album? |

I think that yes, because despite being a member, he's allowed to place a rating or even to make a review telling the wonders of the band, as long as he respects the guidelines

And was it really him, Nad Sylvan ? Wasn't it some kind of troll who acted in his name ? I mean it's not that hard to act as someone else on the internet. Not hard at all.

Reviews on Prog Archives Ah, missed that deleted review but to review your own album is akin to an extreme form of idolatry as of course you will give it 5 stars to beef up its reputation whether its bad, good or not. Hopefully sense will prevail in this situation and the album wont end up in the masterpiece category due to the circumstances. However more importantly why isn’t the reviewer defending their review here. Its all rather strange. Perhaps its not even the band reviewing this at all as has been suggested. I like what Epignosis said earlier here. I too have problems finding the thread for review discussion as its in a weird area. Can it be always pushed to the front of that section at least so we don’t have to hunt it down. Who knows it’s here besides the ones in the know? Not many I assure you. I also agree with the way that Ivan_Melgar_ reviews the 3 and 4 star ratings. I had never considered A SPECIFIC yard stick such as 3 albums to measure the album in question against. But that’s a great idea as at times I have probs rating 3 star albums. Why don't they make the 4 stars? Masterpieces are masterpieces but when an album falls short by a star you have to justify this decision. I think far too many reviewers are awarding 5 stars without considering the 4 star rating. It’s lazy reviewing. Only a chosen elite should be masterpiece material. Likewise only a few should be 1 star. It has to smell bad really to gain that award. The question is, is it salvageable? eg: ELP - Love Beach: nothing good on it; - Works 2: some tracks are good, so 2 stars at least. In light of this my ratings could be measured thusly with these albums as a measuring stick: Masterpieces (outstanding) Excellent (not quite masterpiece but incredible prog) Good prog, listenable but flawed (some tracks let it down as filler material) Average, salvageable (One or two great tracks but many filler tracks and some very bad quality) Very ordinary, consistently sub standard prog (most tracks are forgettable, or absolutely terrible) If anyone has better suggestions let me know as I'm always interested in providing reviews that are fair no matter how I feel about the subgenre itself.

Or three. No, don't make the same mistake as I did when I (out of curiosity) googled for it. (and found Sarah Palin). Guys, one question - I saw it used many times by Iván, Logan and now by ACR. How do you copy entire layout and design of certain segment of text ? Like pre-previous poster did when he copied his albums. Edited by Marty McFly - May 11 2010 at 05:42 |
