LOL!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I felt the same way. Pure prog bliss.
I have read some posts about the "religious" lyrics turning people off. All I have to say is from a purely musical standpoint, If people dismiss THIS group strickly because of the lyrics, I feel sorry for them.
The musicianship was absolutely spot on. Truly remarkable.
Pull out your "Whirlwind" cd and listen to the following tracks:
10. Pieces of Heaven (reminds me of Gentle Giant @1:10)
11. Is It Really Happening? (about four minutes in to the end)
For you musicians out there pay particular attention to the time signatures at around 7 minutes (6:50) in on track 11. IT SOUNDED BETTER THAN THE ALBUM IN CONCERT. They were THAT good!
I don't know what the reaction was like in Montreal, but in SF, everyone was on their feet with an ovation at the end of that part, (and several others BTW).
I have a favor to ask of people who still have the concert to go to:
When Neil sings, "Look at the person Who is standing to your right" in "Set us free", everyone in the audience should stand up and look to their right! (Random thought, sorry.)

I saw them in Philly last night. Easily the best concert I've ever been too.

I was at the Chicago show on the 20th. What an incredible treat for me as I am a huge Transatlantic and Pain of Salvation fan. I am still stunned! As much as I love All of the Above, Stranger and Duel with the Devil, I could not believe how the Whirlwind stuff when performed live just blew them all away. I also echo the sentiments of those who say that the 3.5 hour concert flew by. This band really is a supergroup and put on an amazing live show. Words cannot express...

i saw them in milan two days ago. wanna see some pictures?
the concert was always very very good... more than 3 hours of music, and the setist i guess it's always the same, with the entire whirlwind album and songs from the other 2 ones. i was very tired, but tried to sleep only during the breaks between the sets. the show was very entertaining indeed... i hate dream theater's latest albums and the portnoy/petrucci production, but the drummer is really a great thing to see playing.
maybe you have already checked out blabbermouth. what happened towards the end of the show was that neal morse ran to portnoy's drumset, and substituted him. and i thought, what the f**k! morse plays guitars, keyboards... and DRUMS TOO!!!
in the meanwhile portnoy jumped over the crowd for a stage surfing session. and when he came back to the stage, with morse still playing drums as hell, he embraced trewavas' bass guitar and there he started singing the 'heaven and hell' song as a tribute to the recently passed away RJ Dio. they also played a bit of 'holy diver' with gildenlow on lead vocals, before going back to the "standard configuration".
after the show we waited for the musicians who conceded some fast signing and photo session... a great night overall!

Very true! Mike Portnoy has said in The Whirlwind documentary that he doesn't want to make new albums and tours to be a regular thing, so I wouldn't be surprised if there wouldn't be another opportunity to see them in the next 5 years. Well, I'm certainly glad I got my tickets!

I saw TFK and that bored me to death. Transatlantic is close to TFK and given that I had an alternative with the iconic Nomeansno (iconic not only in the punk circles, they are regarded as punk jazz, so progsters should be interested), I dind't hesitate a second.
Nomeansno were great yesterday. And they have their own style. It's both energetic and technical. They played stoner, psychedelic rock, syncopated punk, raw punk, disco and rockabilly. The show was amazing, they are like the Zappas of punk. It reminded me a lot the gig Melvins did at the same place a couple of months ago.
If you have the chance to see Nomeansno on stage, you shouldn't hesitate.

Did you ever see non-prog acts live ? The best live performances I saw are by non-prog bands (maybe with the exception of Gong).
