Transatlantic started their "Whirld Tour" last Saturday night at the Downey Theater near Los Angeles. The near sellout crowd was rewarded with an incredible show! The musicianship was of the highest order. Pete and Mike played off each other all night. Neal and Roine were in great form. The addition of Daniel Gildenlow made it possible to fill in the gaps wherever needed. The band played for three and a half hours, less a fifteen minute intermission. The huge roar as the set reached its final note was as loud and joyous as any I have ever heard and the band was truly grateful to receive such a loving ovation. It was great to see grown people walking around with smiles on their faces twenty minutes after the show was completed. AHHHHHH, the Power of Prog! This was a must-see show for all Prog lovers!

This should be defined as the musical definition of a marathon. Good grief that's a lot of stuff.

About 3 1/2 hours less a 15 minute intermission. It was stunning. I have seen all the great bands in their heyday and the musical performance of this band was right up there. There were 5 professional musicians on that stage playing at the top of their games.

Saw them in San Francisco on the 18th. Simply an amazing concert. I have been to hundreds of concerts in my life (52 years). This was the best I have ever been to. Amazing, amazing musicianship! If you get a chance, you have to go. Thank you so much, Mike, Neil, Roine, Pete and Daniel! |

They are playing in Chicago tonight. If it were the weekend I might be more tempted to make the trip and make a weekend out of it.

I wish M@X. I was actually looking at airfare to see if another show might have been possible before they left for Europe. I am still stunned 3 days later and had Jeff Beck the night after. Unbelievable.
You will be happily blown away.

Here are a couple of good clips I found:
http://www.youtube.com/user/earthling2112#p/u/3/dkTPiVbbCSs
It's been 2+ days since the show I went to. Still haven't come down. The band really connected with the audience. When Neil sang the "Rock the house" portion of Whirlwind, the entire audience stood up and yelled in unison and Neil had a surprised, kind of taken back look on his face. He repeated "Rock the house" to an even louder yell. He then admitted to having forgotten the lyrics. He did one final "Rock the house" before continuing. It was a magical moment among many. The band truly looked like they were really happy to be playing together again. The atmosphere was absolutely electric. The building tempo and intricate time signature portions during and after the "Is it really happening" part of Whirlwind were breathtaking. They were so together. I know you are going to find this hard to believe, but the concert went by way to fast. It did not feel long at all. It was a perfect set list.
Roine did a terrific job singing "Bridge across forever". Daniel could not get the smile off of his face. He added a lot to the show, especially with the twelve string parts. The mellotron sampling was awesome. The band sounded better than on the album. Mikes drums were commanding and precise. Very well tuned. He played with power and precision and the members of the group were keying off of each other, all with smiles of enjoyment. This one will be very, very hard to beat (No pun intended). It was a truly magical evening. I can only imagine how good they are going to sound by the time they get to |

M@X,
I am envious of you. You have it to look forward to. When it’s over, it’s a sad feeling. It's a good feeling because of what you've just witnessed, but it's over. By the way. This is a terrific web site! Thank you! |
