I just wonder what's up with people who want to force others to review the way they want to. One advantage of a site like PA is that you can pick and choose what you want to review - unlike other sites, where you have to review what you get, and sometimes wish you had never heard some of the albums that you are supposed to review.

I've just gave three. Actually, I had more 5-stars than 4-ones, but after some time after I reviewed them, I though about it. And decreased rating if they weren't top class as they seemed before. I know you're not judging, or meaning it bad. Just imagine me smiling while reading my post(s) and you'll know how I mean it :-) even without smiles. |

Raff,
I wouldn't try to force anyone to do anything. I was simply posing a question. I have my reasons, but I'd rather not share them on the public forum. Although I didn't mean any offence it seems I've caused some nonetheless. Sorry for that.

Even giving two stars less than I gave, I can quite follow what he said. It's just that I can appreciate some things more than others. It is very nice work. As I once said, Juan is rising star here. |

A masterpiece is in the ear of the behearer, but he did say 3.5 which is still into the very good realm. I wonder aabout the drum machine comment though, though you used a machine, Rob to create the drum sounds, I believe that you pointed it before that it wasn't an acual "drum machine" you used, but a computer program. |

Well, yes, it has been brought up before. In lieu of a drummer (since I live in an apartment and could not afford a drummer at the time), I used BFD software, which I still like, and would recommend (I've used many drum machines before, and they are crap compared to BFD). I actually am still learning how to properly set up the software to make it sound more real. I mean, listen to those samples on the website there! I may be exposing some audiophile ignorance, but I cannot tell the difference between BFD and a human drummer (partly because these are recorded samples in a studio). |

Oh, thanks Marty... you are so nice... didn't knew you were talking about me...
![]() ![]() Yeah, I know a werewolf was what it needed... but I save it for a more obscure album, so the werewolf will pull all the attention... and blood, of course...

I have worked with inside drum machines with my keyboards, with software and now I'm sequencing and to be honest, I don't see too much difference... I have made better results playing the drums with my keyboard, but is very hard because the fingers are not used to play like a drummer but well, I think all the tricks are in the use of reverbs and panning... you know, layering and filtering each track... But well, I put there drum machine, because, software or not, it is a virtual drum machine, so I don't see any problem there logan.
And I would rate it as a 4 star album, I think it would be fair... but the album is still growing, maybe soon... who knows... I think it's a good addition but not essential... just above of good...

We all do remember this "thing". But you know they say, some things are so bad that they crossed the line of being bad and entered realm of being good from the other said. I think that Terry Pratchett used this (only with mind madness). I enjoy very much these Duck Tales >:-) of course, I'm year 1989 and they were aired in Czech from around 1993, so...you know. |

first of all reading a negative review is very often rewarding, because it serves as a kind of warning. And if its well made and honest, dosent actualy have to be very negative, just points out that this is not a great
album, seen from the reviewers point.
Secondly because if everyone only make 3-5 star reviews, 4 will become a medicore score.

^ Been reading your reviews. I notice you've posted a rating only of Islands. Will you be adding a review?

Yes, and it can be rewarding even if you really like the low-rated album (can provide food for thought). I can actually think of a review or two that changed my mind about an album -- I realised that what I thought was really good was in fact pretty mediocre. Maybe I would have realised it in time anyway. Although I don't read reviews that often, I'm happy to see well-written reviews with low ratings of albums I really like. I recently added an act that I really like but enjoyed reading its first, and so far only, review which happened to be two stars. The points were made well. It's so good that I want to share it here, and, as a well-written review of an album you know might, its caused me to re-evaluate the work. I'll never get into writing reviews, even though I love to write, cause I don't have this kind of ability. Review by Rivertree SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Psych/Space Team & Band Submissions ![]() If you are familiar with the short-lived band 'Vita Nova' you will immediately recognize Sylvester Levay's touch, his style playing piano on the opening Breadhead - this a a dynamic song with changing time signatures. Besides the dominant jazz rock behaviour we have a charming interlude here with acoustic guitar, flute and piano. Dramatic string arrangements are added. An extraordinary track! With respect I have to notice that Ralf Nowy doesn't push himself into the foreground with his instruments. The following title song has much more of a sophisticated jazz pop song. Relaxed - mellow flute and saxophone and some great guitar contributions. Amon Düül 2 bassist Lothar Meid is surprisingly involved here. Guitarist Paul Vincent, who had some wild times when extensively touring with Missus Beastly around 1970, is responsible for some slight psychedelic moments. But you won't find weird or experimental impressions. This is strictly arranged and orchestrated music. Something's Happened On The Chicken Farm for example could be suitable as a theme song for a television series. This album is a professional production without a doubt, however I can't find anything exciting in the following songs. The oriental flavoured Shiwa's Dance with suitar, tabla and string arrangements is nothing spectacular and seems misplaced. Tschad has a nice drive forced by diverse percussion instruments and flute. Produced with the new quadraphonic sound 'Lucifer's Dream' is a pleasant album made by prolific musicians, however provided with a minimal prog proportion. As for that it foreshadows Ralf Nowy's career as a pop producer and can only be recommended to universal collectors of the German music history. ![]() Posted Monday, April 05, 2010 Edited by Logan - April 06 2010 at 20:14 |

In fact, I have posted some 2 stars reviews about Dream Theater promo CD's and stuff... it doesn't mean is bad... it means that is "only for fans"... I see that the rating process is quite good, and the bad reviews are always better to guide us through bands or albums that we haven't heard yet... many of the 5 stars reviews are some what of fanatical... I still read it too... but I always pick up better the 4 and 3 stars to guide me better... just my two cents...

I would have done this over easter break as i was not working and wanted to write a ton of reviews. i ended up writing 21 reviews and posting them on one day, and then posted 3 the next day, and i think 2 the next day - i was only doing what i love doing and had the time to do it - But I was on the site non stop all day to get them done LOL ..............Must be obssessed or addicted. It will slow down now of course I am back to work.... (teaching English at College) i just hope I didn't get on anyone's nerves by doing so, as it was not my intention to flood the main page sincerely!
