Topic: Progressive Black Metal? Posted: March 25 2010 at 10:52 |
I'm a real lover of the genre. my playlist have lots of black metal bands that have progressive elements or have a progressive style in general. (for example: Arcturus, Borknagar, Shining, Ihsahn, Peccatum, Ulver, Dodheimsgard, Akercocke(actually mostly death metal), Lifelover, Darkspace, Agalloch, Fen etc.)
But I want to know more about new bands related with this genre and naturally some recommendations, your favourite bands and hear about the latest news about them. So I wanted to open this topic.
By the way you should check out Oranssi Pazuzu, a progressive/psychedelic black metal band with kraut-rock influences from Finland. Though I have already opened a topic for it, you can make comments about them there too.

I really like Ansur and, in minor degree, Enslaved. One of the few black metal bands to have recorded their albums inside a studio instead of in a bathroom.
Oh, did I mentioned they are awesome?

I know almost nothing about black metal, but from the little I know Negura Bunget's "OM" is highly representative of this genre. I have it and like it immensely, it's an amazing masterpiece.

I´ll second the Negura Bunget recommendation.
Dødheimsgard is one of my favorites. Take a listen to the 666 International album but also their Supervillain Outcast album.
Void, Ephel Duath, Virus, Ved Buens Ende ( the last two are not exactly black metal but related), Code, The Axis of Perdition, Control Human Delete, Kailash, Abigor, Aborym...etc.

Om by Negura Bunget is a favorite of mine in the genre. I've also liked what I've heard from Enslaved.

Wolves In The Throne Room, hell of a band, you must check them. Drudkh - mixture of progressive, black, folk, impressive act by all means. Skagos - not in PA, but i would love to see them here. Sigh - experimental black metal, in fact their music is not just black metal but some avantgarde stuf i would say, excellent. also Blut Aus Nord, Caina, Weakling, Mirrorthrone, Secrets of the Moon

I have been listening the bands mentioned above already they are all great. I'm looking for kind of underground but though qualified and good bands like Oranssi Pazuzu.
