Hey everybody I just found this website, I'm really excited to see a website dedicated to progressive music.I look forward to using it. Anyways, I figured ide make my first post about the dillinger escape plan. To anybody unfamiliar with them, they are an incredible band if your into the heavier style of prog. They've got a new album called option paralysis coming out the 23 of this month. Should be amazing. You can hear the new single farewell mona lisa on youtube.

Their first EP and full-length were favorites of mine for almost ten years, and that's coming from a prog background.  Their later work I've not given a fair shake, but I can vouch for the awesomeness of The Running Board and Calculating Infinity!

^I understand and appreciate the importance of their early work, and can even enjoy a fair amount of it, but their work since then is far superior, in my opinion. Their new vocalist is way more skilled and unique, and their songwriting & production has also improved with time.

However, their new track is pretty awful. My anticipation of Option Paralysis has diminished greatly as a result of hearing it, but I still have some hope.

I thought that all their albums are solid 3-stars but Ire Works is a real masterpiece! ^Yes the new song could have been better but I still believe Option Paralysis will be a good album

I saw them live recently in Paris. They were fantastic but they are mainly hardcore with odd-time signatures, which is commonly called mathcore. But you have to be a hardcore fan to like them (no singing just "screams", extreme music). I don't think prog fans would easily get into them if they cannot bear the most extreme side of metal/hardcore.

I love their music, but sadly I just can't take their vocals, (and I am into some very harsh stuff!)
Something about them, I just don't know.
However, they do make some brilliant music.

Edit: Welcome by the way!

lucas, if you listen to The Dillinger Escape Plans music from Miss Machine on, you'll hear a fair amount of singing.

I can certainly appreciate the DEP. I've listened to the Irony is a Dead Scene EP for a while, and it's quite impressive, though it's not really the type of music I enjoy listening to, so for the most part it's mostly appreciation for their ability.

Their cover of "Come to Daddy" is fantastic.

I first got into DEP when I saw them opening for Bungle on the California tour.  Total chaos.  I've watched them evolve ever since.  Not an easy band to love, but it'll be interesting to see where their journey takes them.

To the OP, I could be totally way off base, but are you a member of SS.org?
Your name seems to suggest you own an Ibanez S7420

As for TDEP, absolutely love their music.

Their best is easily Miss Machine. that album is just killer from start to finish but i LOVE how they just explode out of the gate and into panasonic youth their only weak points are songs like black bubblegum and unretrofied etc. But the only way to experience the band is live. be seeing them in a few weeks!

Yeah I think tdep could be classified as progressive math metal. I here their live shows are absolutely insane...wish I could have seen them play with between the buried and me. And yeah dude I play a s7420, s520, and s470. I've been checking out the seven string forum but I'm not a member yet

Sevenstring.org is awesome.
I used to post a lot around here, but realized my main interests were elsewhere which led me to being on SS.org a lot lol.
I'm more of an RG guy personally, but I hope to track down a flame maple top S7420
