Got to go with Scenes From A Memory.

The story and the music kept it in my "A" rotation for months.  It's still on my "B" list, I listen to it every couple of months.

I'd have to say it's my favorite example of LaBrie's work to date also.

I think Metropolis Pt. II is the best, but sometimes I consider A change of seasons as their best.
I voted for change of seasons because scenes from a memory will win anyway...

I just bought my first Dream Theater CD which was Change Of Seasons. I bought it for the cover versions and have just started to get into the first part. So far, I more or less like it but the guitar solos tend to get annoying and border on noodling but the rythm parts are pretty cool. I think that they should exploit their keyboard player a little more. I Like the drummer he`s not exceptional but solid. Having read that, bear in mind that I`m from the old  1970`school of progressive music.

I have 4 DT albums and I think their songs miss some kind of emotion. They all seem so cool and technical. And the ballads are cheesey!

Images and Words is their masterpiece. Labrie's vocals didn't sound so pure and so astonishing on the further records. And Kevin Moore plays some unforgettable keyboard parts on this LP.

I have many DT albums and all of them are good. However, Images and Words gets my vote, thanks to a friend who turned me on to them about 4 years ago.

I'd have to say Images and Words.  The music in that album still sticks in my mind everytime I listen to it and often when I don't.  Besides that, Wait for Sleep is still one of my favorite songs just from the beautiful piano part.

indeed, can't get a thrill from this album that I get with bands like Yes, camel whatever.. This album really bores me, I want to sell it today ..

I understand what you're saying. Bands like Dream Theater just don't have the same emation in their music as seventies bands. I kinda like Images And Words for a while, but then it gets boring...

There's a great riff in Under A Glass Moon though  (the metalhead in me is speaking...)

 

My opinion: Dream Theater is NOTHING compared to e.g. Gentle Giant

I have to say that I love the seventies Bands AND I love Dream Theater...I don't think that they rule out each other
Maybe the reason could be that I was listening to Metal long time ago, discovered Led Zep and Uriah Heep and was listening to this kind of music for a while and then deiscovered Prog..I can listen to all of them and, not like a friend of mine, I can listen to Gentle Giant and then, just one minute later to Dream Theater, I don't have a problem with it, because I really like both, the modern and the "classic" Prog...
And after seeing Dream Theater live here in my hometown 2 month ago I really like them even more
 
But I can't stand the eighties Prog like Marillion, I really hate Marillion  and Queensryche  THEY really bore me...

Images and Words for me as well! But even this album get me bored after a while. It's fun to see them live though. They are technically superb and it rocks alot!! We really need bands like DT! But, the world wouldn't have been the same without Gentle Giant....

awake... with most of the chances to get a higher discussion, this is the first (and last) real group record, very good thoughts in a song and a very solid concept in darkness, sadness and dreams, in here the 5 piece tries hard enough to produce a great album, and great playing, better and cleaner than images and words, and more complex than falling into infinity... the early fans of DT really misses Kevin Moore

I missed Moore as Sherinian had his job , but NOW...I think Rudess is even better that Moore... I really love Rudess' playing I saw him live and bought his solo album 'Feeding the Wheel' GREAT...
But even if Sherinian was Keyboarder while change of Seasons I still think it is their best ... but sometimes it's Metropolis II...listening to ACOS makes my think it is their best, listening to Metropolis II makes my think SFAM is the best ;) I can't decide  But I'm listening to Awake right now...

I can only second that opinion! I&W is the only album that has stuck with me for a longer time. This band with perfect technical skill is often overrated...
