On the replays I did notice that the Saints were taking incredible cheap shots on Favre. He tried his best. The late pass interference on the Vikings enabled the game-winning field goal. I thought that interference call was bad, but I agree with you Ms. Finnforest, that Mr. Favre had a great year

Ouch, it was pretty brutal to watch him get hit like that. Clean hits I'm fine with. Going for the legs, and lifting and driving guys you already have in grasp is playing to injure, which I think is really lame. I do actually think the Saints game plan was to take some cheap shots. The announcers and their fans might not believe that, but its my personal opinion. I retract my agreement with Pat that the Vikes are not of the same level as these teams. After watching these supposedly elite teams the last few weeks, I think the Vikings can compete well with any of them. One stupid throw less by Brett and the Saints would have been eliminated. Colts? Good yeah, but they can be beat too. I'm not saying the Vikings are some dominant team, I'm just saying after watching these other teams that the Vikes can compete with any of them. Anyway, I have so much respect for what Favre accomplished this year. Plus he made me give a rip about football again. I haven't cared about sports in a long long time. It was great watching him because he truly was having fun out there, and the recievers were feeding off that energy. If Peterson could hang on to a football, we could have won a couple more games this year. He's gotta get some hands. GREAT year Brett

Can't help but hope that the Saints pull it off. They've been so much for N'awlins these past few years.

How could it be better than the last two Super Bowls? Those were ones for the ages.

Football is a sport, golf is a game
They are enjoyed for different reasons.
But talk about risk: you can lose your balls while golfing!

Please... Golf... A nice game for retirees maybe... But a SPORT?
Oh well, maybe it is a bloody, exhausting, incredibly challenging sport. I still prefer games where there's a little bit more at risk than the sole of your shoes... And where you can see more of a team effort.
Wrong thread anyway. It's you who brought up Tiger W!

^ Your hatred of the Colts and Manning is lovely. If you didn't have that avatar it would even qualify as cute.
And obviously you know that chances in Miami (Dolphin stadium is just 30 minutes from where I live) of rain are slim in february, and chances of snow are slim in... the 21st century.
Oh man, there's at least a 50% chance you'll have to suffer endless days of seeing Manning's face everywhere... Well, maybe you'll love him after that. Or who knows, maybe you already do!
On another matter, I much prefer any kind of sports personality taking over the role of sports icon other than a goddamned golfer...

Yes, the giant guys up front would block a lot less effectively if they didn't have a completely immobile stiff, that curles into the fetal position whenever there is a hint of pressure, back there.
Hope the Saints win in a blow out but the way they played in the second half of the championship game I can see the Colts sneaking their way to another SB win and then they only face we will ever see on TV again will be Peyton Manning's (especially with Tiger Woods' downfall). By the way, the two best teams played in the NFC Championship earlier and the 3rd best team was upset in San Diego last week. Either way, two dome teams (well, the Colts stadium is more of a giant barn) meeting in a Super Bowl . Would it be too much to ask for God to send down a mighty snow storm to settle over Miami in two weeks, make these sissies play the game as intended. Saw one of those fanny-pack sized pre-packaged factory printed and mass distributed roll open mini signs proudly displayed by a Colts "fan" and nearly lost my lunch. Sickening

Also, I seem to recall a few people raving endlessly about Favre, especially before the season even began. I will grant that: He had on his best seasons ever, and was one of the top 3 QBs that played this year.
However, I said his body can't take it.... Not to jab at someone getting injured but Brett made it a long way but his body just finally couldnt take it....He looked like a defeated man, in so many ways.
Well, his last pass was a pick....will he come back to try and remedy that?

I would have killed for a Jets-Saints superbowl. But at least I got it halfway right. Go Saints!

Championship Picks:
AFC:
Jets over Colts - Peyton didn't play all that well last week and has never proven himself a playoff performer, he will be picked by the best secondary in the NFL. The Jets offense will be able to grind down the always suspect Colts D with the run well enough to earn a victory for its defense and send the worst overall team to the SB since Trent Dilfer's Ravens. I'm not of the belief that the Colts are anything special to begin with, mind you, just a solid one dimensional team with the softest schedule possible.
|
It seems our resident NFL-expert has failed... Mmm... Maybe the Colts are a decent team after all? I mean, I know there's no way you can be wrong, but statistics, you know... those damn numbers that they use... Oh, no, they're lying. And that Manning... yes, so overrated. When he won the Superbowl he didn't really prove anything, he just was lucky....All his numbers are made up... |
Guess one player and the easiest schedule in football can get you to the Super Bowl, shame. I'm not going to praise the Colts for beating two teams that shouldn't have been in the playoffs, even if I picked one of them (while saying they'd be the worst to ever go to the SB). Manning was absent for the first 10 quarters of the playoffs in their Super Bowl winning year, which was the one time I could call them a complete team. Besideds, any AFC team could have beat Chicago in the Super Bowl, Rex Grossman was their starter (Rex Grossman started in a Super Bowl!). Peyton was impressive today at home, on his carpet, behind an offensivel ine that is brilliant every play without ever holding, somehow. The real shame of having Peyton in the Super Bowl is it'll be one more week of that unbearable lining up with 30 seconds on the clock and snapping it with 5 left, SNAP THE F'N BALL YOU F'N CLOWN. Two dome teams in the Super Bowl, what a disgrace for the NFL.
I will admit, I let my anti-Colts feelings affect my pick and they were the better team, they should have been after all. Still think the AFC was the inferior conference for the first time in a loooong time this year and will be hoping that shines through in the big game.
Peyton is no god, he is a top 5 QB playing behind what is consistently the best (by a large margin) offensive line in football, year in and year out. He has a great arm and is very accurate but you cannot discount that he has lived a very charmed existence in the NFL, especially in his monster stat years.

Was pulling for the Jets but hey....we all know that they were clearly the lesser team. At least they put up one hell of a fight, all you can ask for.
Rooting for the Saints tonight, but whoever wins...as long as they beat the Colts I'll be fine with it.
