Bass effect pedals

A friend of mine who is a really brillant bass player using line 6 Pod X3 pro and having great sound from it. I think using multifx or analog pedals is a matter of choice. Using multi fx gets the ease of use togather its an add but ofcourse analog equipments usually have warmer tones. Line 6's amp simulations are quite succesful however boss is better on fx issue i think. This is my personal view, as a keys player interested in recording and equipments etc. Bassist would give detailed answers.

I have one pedal; Electro Harmonix Russian Big Muff (Bass?) Pi fuzz pedal.  It works wonders, but eats batteries quickly.

What are you trying to achieve with the pedals?

I'll give some props to the Digitech Bass Synth Wah, pretty OK Autowah (lacking lows as usual, but there is an autowah with an octave as well). The synth effects are nothing stellar, fun stuff to play around with, fun to twiddle knobs while sustaining a note for spacey madness, but hard to use in a practical setting.

Furthermore, the plain octave pedal is pretty right on, tracks pretty low. I've read down to low D, but my amp setup isn't stellar so I can't confirm it's clarity.

So, I recommed it because even if you don't find a practical use for any of the other stuff (I haven't, it's fun, but nothing practical) you end up with a decent octave pedal.


Honestly, my favorite "pedal" I picked up for my bass playing (aside from a tuner perhaps, I got a Planet Waves tuner which is very nice for the price) is my Digitech Jamman looper. I haven't been able to use it much in a band setting other than triggering ambient samples, but it's so nice to record a riff and then be able to instantly start layering over top. It's helped me out a lot compositionally, and it's really fun. Though, I'm sure there are better loopers.
