No problem. There are also plenty of artists that I feel would fit the site which have been rejected, so I know the feeling. Thanks for taking it nicely.

OK. Well, thanks for taking your time on this anyway.

...and to me they're still progressive.

I guess I should feel offended, but I´m in a good mood today so I´ll take it as a compliment insteadBig smile. We´ve all listened to Unia to re-evaluate if Sonata Arctica would fit into the progressive metal catagory on PA ( Sonata Arctica was originally evaluated before Unia was released), but three out of five didn´t feel they would fit the site, so a rejection it is.

http://progfreak.com/go/home/progarchives?path=pm/rejected&block=10. Three no votes from current members of the team means that Sonata Arctica is rejected.

The only reason someone would say they are not progressive is if they haven't heard Unia. There is no other way to classify Unia. It certainly isn't power metal. The Days of Grays also has some progressive elements, but is nowhere near as progressive as Unia. There are plenty of bands on here that are far less progressive than Sonata Arctica.

Although I do have to admit that I was surprised to see that there are legitimate artists we have missed even after all this time.

Ah, well I wasn't referring to artists we legitimately missed. What confuses me is why someone would really want to sneak Tori Amos in.

I definately think they should be represented on the site. Even some of their albums before Unia have prgoressive elemens.

Not mine to tweak, nor within my 'powers'.

Still: Tweak the PR definition a little bit and Sonata Arctica would fit in nicely, along with other bands that are already there and which don't really fit the current description. Then the PMT would not have to add them to Prog Metal just because they should be here but don't fit the current PR description.

LOLYes it should. As Prog-related is now there is a minimum chance that Sonata Arctica will be included in that catagory which I have explained to St.Cleve Chronicle in one of my first posts in this thread. Therefore the only chance right now is in progressive metal. All discussions about changing the Prog-related catagory should be conducted in another thread. If and when Prog-related is changed some time in the future and Sonata Arctica are rejected for inclusion in progressive metal again, Prog-related might be an option ( but this is guessing and speculations). But as it is now progressive metal is the only option IMO.

I think it´s relevant too but I agree with John here that we are now far off topic and such a discussion should be conducted in another thread. This thread is solely for determining if Sonata Arctica should be included in Progressive Metal or not.

^ for now a quick and easy fix would be to enhance the current definition so that being an influence to prog is just one of the ways a band can be related to prog. Some bands might be related through band members, others through their music containing some elements of progressive music, but not enough to qualify as fully fledged prog. We could also add that the category doesn't necessarily contain every band that fits the description, but only a selection which is determined by the admins based on criteria like level of relation and relevance.
